Question after killing the battery

so yesterday morning at about7ish getting ready to go to work, i go out to the car like normal go to start the car... it turns over, but my choke is disconected so i use the ol foot..... well im trying to keep the noise down the best i can with a header and full exh. system... well apparently i didnt do a good job of keeping thee motor running and it died... happens all the time. normaly just start it back up.... this time no success till the battery died... so i got a new battery this morning popped it in, and figured if it was flooded yesterday then surley it will start no prob with a new battery.... NOPE.. im trying everything to.. checked fuel, used starter fluid, dumped oil down the carb to help unflood... so now i think im not getting any spark, so i switched the coils... STARTS RIGHT UP! wtf? runs like hell no power past 4krpms but got me to work.... oh and my brake light is on.... that may be a diff issue... the thing that gets me is its been running great till yesterday morning....???
