Add power steering?

I figured that this subject would be all over the place - but the search engine yielded nothing.

Anyone *add* power steering to their (previously unpowered)GSL-SE?

My '85 GSL-SE has no power steering, I have an option on a GSL-SE parts car that has it. Is this a tough mod?

I'm not so sure it is that tough of a job, but I don't think it's really worth the effort. If you want to make an improvement just swap the boxes so you get the better ratio. Mine came with power steering, but the pump was pretty much toast, so I just removed the belt and I like the steering so much better...

Hey POS, is your's power or not? I'd like to compare feel sometime, just for amusement...

You'll have to replace the steering column with the p/s because the p/s column has a "joint" down near the box while the non power steering column goes right into the box. This shoulden't be a problem if you have the keys for the p/s column

Hmmm...since I was considering installing a new (relatively speaking) steering box in any case, maybe your tip *would* be a good idea. Thanks!

You can have my two pumps. Both of my 7's leaked so they were disconnected.

Good to know... As I said, sometime I want to compare the difference.. Too bad the next races aren't until like March..

Leaves time to mess with the car at least. Which has started leaking coolant now in my garage... And it hasn't even been driven in like 2 weeks. odd.

The POS is also leaving a puddle, it’s leaking from the coolant line that goes from the fuel injection back into the engine. Had already replaced the one from the water pump to the fuel injection. Wished I had done both when I replaced the one line. If it keeps this up I may just ditch it for a Miata!

Nice cars, but take note that I managed to beat my dad at the last Auto-X in mineral well in his brand new miata, even with my throughly thrashed suspension... I was happy

Kinda wish mine was a convertable though... Oh well, at least I can play with my wankel instead!
