To fix steering “play” you will have to set your gear back to center. A dealership will be your best bet to get this done (they have a computer that can find true center).

If your talking about your steering ratio (lock to lock) 10:1, 15:1 ect you will need to buy a new gear.

LMFAO i just read your signature challer2000 er rosrex7 thats funny **** hehehehehe not sure about steering i know in some steering boxes there is a worm gear that can be adjusted in very small amounts in order to get the play out but if its excesive like more than an inch in either direction from center then you will ether have to replace the gear or the steering box as a whole

The steering box has a bushing that wears out not the gears..... what you can do is shim that bushing and re-adjust. Mind you that it takes a few trys and you must drive the car to accually feel the change because. It may feel good stopped but the play might reappear after a spin around the block.

The steering box is the last part of the steering systm to be touched. If you're still running the oem factory, tierods, idler arm, ball joints, those need to be inspected and replaced as needed first. If there is wear and play in any of those parts, no amount of box adjustement will compensate for that. In fact, many end up destroying thier boxes due to over tightening them trying to adjust for wear elsewhere.

Fwiw, the dealer is not the place to get the box adjusted.

Why bother with that stock crap buy re-speeds steering system. It's an actual rack and pinion. Meaning there is pretty much never going to be play. If money is an issue which it is for all of us. Then don't fix your stock crap and save your money then buy it. By the time you buy all new rod ends a gearbox and idler arm you will spend just as much and still have something not as good. WHY?

Just my opinion. I talked my wife into buying it for me for christmas! HA yea me.

the GSLSE doesnt have a R&P in there stock, if you have one then it is either a CP rack or another custom job.

If i can get a camera in the next few days i will try to get some pics of it. It has no P/S and i had it up on a lift and it looked like a normal manual steering rack.

Mine is most likely the same as yours then....the previous owner didnt look like the kind of person that would modify it. **** they put a muffler on the back that was from the junkyard....it didnt last long and now has a hole in it lol.
