84gslse getting worse--help
Well, I am still getting the surging in my tac, the shifting on the car is notchy ( bucks and is just not smooth) and after I did the MMO treatment where the sparks plugs go (trailing holes) ,to lube the apex seals, the cars oil pressure is lower from 60 down to 45 when driving at 60 MPH. The car just seems to be loosing power, notchy and jerks . This is the best description I can make. I replaced the fuel filter, checked that big black plastic tube that goes to the EGI thingy. I don't see any restrictions. I put in fuel injector cleaner, changed my plugs with NGK after doing the MMO, wires look good. Did not do the points or dist. cap. Where do I go from here?? Shall I just bite the bullet and take it to a Pro. We have a good shop in Salisbury, NC called Rotor sports racing and they come highy recommended. The air filter looks new. Is there something else I should check/clean out / replace?? The exhaust is stock. Could it be a bad cat?. How can I tell?..I getting ready to throw in the towel but I thought I would see if you guys can help...I'd appreciate it MUUUUCH!!!!...CJF

The only way I got rid of my surging was advancing the timing a little, then adjusting the air adjust and mixture adjust screws till I got the dsired idle and finally adjusting the TPS by the procedure mentioned in Haynes. Did not surge after that.

Drop the exhaust at the manifold and behind the cat. It's only a few bolts, won't take long at all. With the exhaust on the ground, you can take the precats and main cat apart. Lokk for obstructions in the exhaust. I had a similar problem to what you describe, and although I was battling fuel system problems, the precats in my exhaust had failed, fell apart and the guts of them had lodged in the inlet of the main cat. I spent a year working on this problem, was close to setting the car on fire and leaving it somewhere over a simple problem like this. Trust me, it's worth a bit of your time to check 'em out!
