NY '84 ignition problems/steering wheel question

I recently bought a 1984 rx7 12a and when i bought it the previous owner messed up the stock key ignition to the point of there was a screw driver coming out of it, since i have owned it i bought a new key ignition for it and swapped the bad one out for the good one. I come home from college one weekend to find that the car won't start at all now, it cranks but doesn't turn over. It worked a weekend previous to me coming home and finding it doesn't work now, hasn't moved from my garage, what could of went wrong?

-Also my steering wheel doesn't lock into place, i can pull it out about 3 or so inches out from where it should be against the combo switch, is there a part that is suppose to hold the steering wheel from moving back and forth (towards driver and away from driver) that is just missing? The repair manual i have for it shows something but doesn't explain nor say what it is exactly.

Any help will be greatly appreciated as i am a beginner with rx7's and cars in general i suppose! Thanks!

For the steering wheel, im not sure where exactly its located but there is a little plastic pin that colapses in the event of an accident. I believe its on the column though. If this pin has broken it would give some play in the column. Other than that i dont think there is much holding the steering wheel on..maybe 2-4 screws behind the horn cover. If those are loose you would get some play from the wheel if you pull on it but it shouldnt be that much unless they are gone all together.

As for the no start, does your battery have a full charge? These things hate starting on a discharged battery. Other than that i would make sure that the grounds are all making a good contact. If it flooded while you were trying to start it, you can unplug the fuel pump, remove the plugs and crank it a few times. Then use a little bit of marvel mystery oil through the plug holes making sure to get some on all of the apex seals, re install the plugs and try again. Should fire right up.

I've got the steering wheel issue as well but definitely not 3inches, more like an inch. Here's some info for you which I'll be using myself: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generati...-slide-829765/

I will probably end up buying a new battery to see if that is the problem. Can't think of anything else that went wrong as i haven't driven a mile in it myself yet. On the steering wheel i was a little off,it is right around 1- 1 1/2" play in the steering wheel. I will read up on that post. Thanks! If all else fails i will post a video of it maybe that will help show more so than words.
