'84 GSL-SE Fuel Injection
I have a fuel leak on the right (passenger) side of the engine, up toward the front of the engine. On the engine there is what looks like a vacuum operated fuel check valve. Weird thing is there is only one fuel line going into it. I am getting gas leaking from the VACUUM hose that attaches to it. If I could figure out how to attach a picture I would.... anyway... this valve has the gas line going into it at it's base where it it mounted on the engine...
How do I get this thing off and where can I buy a new one ??
Thanks.....

uhhhh are you talking about the pulsation dampner on your fuel rail???!?!?!? if so dont drive ur car unless u wanna have a weeny roast! if thats it then u can go 2 a junk yard and use a banjo bolt off the other end of the fuel rail.

Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator on the end of the fuel rail. The diaphram has burst and fuel is coming out the vacuum side of the regulator.
Its common on the S4 second gens too.The pulsation damper can fail also, with similar results,so be sure to inspect/replace it as well. The damper is on the other end of the fuel rail.It looks like the regulator, just without the vacuum line.
Dont run the car until its fixed, you can easily burn it to the ground since the exhaust manifold is right near there.

the diaphram has ruptured on the backside of the pulsation dampner leaking gas through. i can't find a new part through rockauto, just a regulator. Might be a tricky part to find new. Either run a banjo bolt like rolfs_7 said, or post in the wanted for something used. They are prone to fail so i would be kinda weary about using a used part, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

That's not bad. We just replaced both of them on our SE. It was hard to find anyone who had both availiable much less at a price lower than my Mazda dealership wholesale account. (I'm in the automotive repair business). I spent 120.76 on the pulsation dampener, 150.95 list. And the pressure regulator was 131.44 with a 164.30 list price. My pre-tax total was 252.20. It pays to buy stuff all the time from them. On a side note you guys don't realize how good Mazda is to you, most manufacturers leave you SOL after 7 years, especially on low volume models like the SE. I've only found the front rotors to be discontinued, but they are readily availiable elsewhere. And I've bought some obscure parts for the SE from them.
To the poster, it's your regulator that's leaking because that's the only one attached to a vacuum line, but replace both as said because they will both leak and if the pulseation dampener leaks it can easily destroy the car by fire.

So, I have definitely determined that it is the pulsation damper leaking .... so the question is should I buy a new one for about $140 (what a rip-off) or replace it with a banjo bolt ?????
