84 gsl alternator = 79 gs alternator?
Both cars have 12a's, but i'm not sure if the 84 alternator is any better. The 79 alternator is bad, I'll be swapping the 84 alternator into the 79 tomorrow. I want to know if I'll be doing any weird wiring or if it will be pnp.

The '79 has an unique alt. It has an external voltage regulator. All other RX-7s have an internal voltage regulator. The ones with an internal regulator are better, but you'll have to do some wiring to make it work and to keep the alt warning light and voltmeter/tach working correctly.
There is a thread in the 1st gen archive called " '83 alt in a '79 " or something like that. Check it out. It should have the info you need.
