83 stock flywheel in 82?
Im running an 83 transmission in an 82 GSL, now can I run the 83 flywheel with that motor or not? I know the clutch disc diameter is different but will it f-up the engine balance? I really need a steel flywheel though, for a 83 so I can run the larger clutch disc size.

No. You need to use the correct flywheel for the correct motor or it will throw the balance for the motor off and cause damage. Some aftermarket flywheels will accept both 215mm and 225mm clutches.

If I remember correctly, the '82 was a bit of an oddball requiring its own specific flywheel. Others will swap around just fine, but not the '82. Jeff could tell you the specifics.

I sure could tell you the differences but it sounds like you want to use something like RB's light steel. Good for you!
RB only sells the 215mm & 225mm compatible flywheels now. They have machined some clearancing pockets for the rivits of the 225mm p-plates. 215mm p-plates don't require this.
RB used to sell a 215mm-only flywheel that you had to clearance yourself if you wanted to use the bigger pressure plate. You also need to get their 83-'92 bolts set that includes longer bolts and aluminum spacers, due to the different step height of 225mm pressure plates.
The flywheel surface will allow 215mm or 225mm clutch discs, so even if you only had a 215mm p-plate and a 225mm disc (let's say you got the parts used or something), you could use them and have about 220mm of grip with a little 5mm of disc extending out beyond the pressure plate's friction surface. It looks funny but it works fine.

Wow that was very helpful. SO what your saying is racing beat uses the same flywheel for both?
I have all the old bolts that came of the engine wouldnt those work(83)? Now what about a clutch would something like this work? http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...&brandName=Luk

The difference in the ones they list is the counterweight that comes with them. If you call them you can probably order the flywheel separately. Also, Mazdatrix sells the flywheels separately on their website. You'll notice the part numbers for all non-turbo ones are the same.

So basically you need an 82' counterweight and an aftermarket lightend steel 225mm flywheel which you can get from Rb and Mazdatrix and some other carriers.
You cannot bolt on any stock(oem) flywheel for what you are trying to accomplish it simply will not work.
