83 carb on 80 possible?
I was given a 1980 rx7 from a guy who could only get it to run with starting fluid. I messed with the choke and got it to run on its own but the bowls were filling up with gas.. We got a carb from the junk yard off a 83 and slapped it on, now car won't start.
I've been searching for the past week but this car needs to be moved by next weekend or its off to the junk yard...Will the 83 carb work? what do i have to block off? I don't care if it runs good just enough to move out my garage. I have never had a carbed rx7 work right so i stay away and only go efi but this was going to be given to my lil brother. Any help would be great.
The previous owner tried to rebuild the carb and gave me most of the rebuild kit because he could not finish.

There are 6 different versions of 1st gen 12A carbs. California emissions account for 3 of them. Otherwise the carbs have slight variations for each Series, i.e., S1, S2, S3. I my sig line is a link to the factory carb manual that covers all of them. Download the manual and do your best at rebuilding the 80 carb so you can pass CARB.
They aren't hard to rebuild, just time consuming. Flooding is usually caused by sticking needle and seats. If the PO adjusted the floats, that may be another cause of the flooding.

Thanks trochoid I have been on your page and downloaded the manuals. I am not worried about emissions just if i do the rats nest removal or plug some stuff can i get the 83 carb to work? I figured I would have to use both fb and sa rats nest removal pages but will it work? the car still has the thermal reactor and we just need it to move/drive in and out of my garage which is on a hill..
thanks

The main difference for mounting the SA/FB carbs is the intake and an exhaust port for the egr/thermal reactor. If you leave the intake and exhaust manis alone, the 83 carb will bolt right up. If the newer carb is in decent shape, it will get it running enough to move the car around.
