so I"m thinking i need to change out my Fuel filter but i'm not quite sure if i need to drop the tank to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

You really need to get a Haynes manual or FSM. They're very helpful. Should be available at local parts stores (Haynes) or available in ebay auctions. The Haynes is less than $20 and the FSM migh be about $50.

The filter is easy to remove. No need to remove the fuel tank. No special tools required. Just wear eye protection unless you like the burning feeling of fuel in your eyes. The filter should be less than $5.
