82 oil leak

Just bought 93 GSL w/82 engine. Getting oil on top of the engine between the oil filler tube and the oil filter area. Is this a common problem with the RX-7? Is it likely that this is leaking between the housings? Can't get it to show at idle sitting still but have a puddle after driving a mile or so getting to 5k rpm.

I'm sure you mean 83 GSL ..... I don't believe Mazda mada a 93 GSL.

Anyway, any oil leaking is a problem, common or not. The oil is leaking under load and not idle. Sounds bad, possible seal between the housings. Clean the engine completely with Engine Brite, especially the area where you are talking. Go for a quick 1/2 mile drive, be sure to get the revs up. Go home and search for the leak. The first thing is finding out exactly where the leak is coming from. Hopefully it's a loose filter.

Are there oil coolers on '82, if so check the oil lines around that.

Yes....it is 83 not 93. Oil appears to be coming out between the housings.....guess I get to pull the motor.....

Now is the perfect time to get it ported. Might as well get the intake manifold done too.
