7aull: I can host your writeup from my website and link it back here.

TGR: The 84-85 dash needs the whole subframe too and has different wiring IIRC. It has been done but it is a pain. Maybe you can do a write-up when you get it all working in your car

I know you've already posted some pics, but since the car's interior is red, your arrows need to be a contrasting color like neon green to pop out...what's there so far looks great, otherwise...

I woould like to add that I replaced the nuts with wingnuts under the dash. I will make the second time around a lot easier.

Thanks for the input, not too hard to go back and change the color.

How small do your hands have to be to tighten them?

What subframe?

...er...what subframe (he writes with fear and a hint of defeat)?

There were basically 10 key bolts: 2 near each of the door jams on, two on both sides of the center console tower, and one each on both sides of the center of the defrost vent; all repeated on the passenger and drivers side. The only piece that wasn't clearly welded to the frame looked like the center console tower, since the carpet slips underneath it to get to the firewall.

Anyway, I have a junker GSL-SE I need to strip. The dash is trashed, but I guess now I get to remove it anyway to look for this subframe. Of course, that is much better than being surprised I am missing a key piece.

Thanks,
Brian T. Carter

The subframe being the piece the dash actually mounts to plus the piece the center console trim mounts to. I think the mounting points were slightly different on these pieces hence why the dash will not bolt up on the 81-83 without swapping out the metal frame underneath the dash too (subframe).

subframe

I think that I took the whole thing...the console pieces connect to this and there is significant metal structure to it. To be honest, I didn't see how I could seperate it.

When it comes time to replace it, I will try to document it.

Thanks,
BTC
