81-82 muffler replacement
i have this 82 GSL that kinda needs a muffler. i was trying to find an aftermarket o.e. type replacement muffler and i'm having no luck finding one. i've tried all of the major auto parts stores and i havent been able to find one. mazdatrix offers a racing beat muffler for $300 but i'm not wanting to spend that much on a muffler if i dont have to. if i do then i will, but if i can get by with a replacement i'll go that route. i'm not making a universal muffler work and i won't settle for a single tip muffler. i'm picky if you guys know anywhere to find one, please let me know.

the only choices I can think of would be
-used OEM, maybe in the FS/WTB section
-Racing Beat
-Pace setter, I can't recommend this one though.
You can get a universal muffler thats twin tip, and it would be cheaper than all of the other options except maybe the used OEM.

Yea,it can be tough since our cars are so brutal on their exhaust systems. There arent really any cheap replacement units out there.
I will say this, autoparts stores arent the right place to be looking.....check a good muffler shop.Thats where your gonna find a direct relacement muffler that isnt factory priced($$) or performance oriented(loud).Quality can vary,so ask them about options and prices.
The only thing that will be as quiet as stock, make more power and hold up well as the stocker, would be the RB.They are expensive for a reason, they're damn good mufflers.

i've used racing beat before and i am no stranger to the 7 and its exhausts. i have a complete exhaust for an 81-82 minus muffler. of all the luck. i think i may have to break donw and go with the racing beat. it'll just have to wait until i finish putting the new engine in my 10AE.

Has anyone tried the DNA gen II type muffler on a rotary?
I am thinking of using the 3" in/out 5.25" x 27" "truck" unit.
Rumer has it they can cut the SPL by about 12 dBA. any idea what a straight pipe rotary SPL is?
They are all stainless with no packing to burn out and appear to be low restriction. See Summit part # TOF-1032-2 at $149.99.
You could try it and let the rest of us know how it works out!!

i have two mufflers for an 83-85, i just dont want to hack them up. i thought about going from a "Y" adapter and using one of the mufflers that i currently have, but i think i'd rather just buy a new muffler and save myself the headache and and not worry about destroying a perfectly good muffler. the muffler i have has lost a tip but the body itself is in ok shape. perhaps i can fabricate and weld weld a tip to the muffler body and live with that....
