'80 engine into '85 chasis?

Hey guys, I have a really nice motor from a 1980 SA and I want to put it into my '85, is there any difference in the wiring harnesses? Are there any modifications I have to make? I'm putting it on a racing beat exhaust so the two manifolds being different won't really matter. What else should I be looking for? Thanks in advance!

well, the intake is fine, you can put a 85 intake on a 80, but not an 80 on a 85. the only difference you will have is that the 80 has no oil sending unit. so that means no oil pressure guage. thats the only difference.

The way around that is to tap the banjo bolt at the bottom of the rear iron. Hard part will be finding a tap that matches the threads of the op sender.

The engine blocks are interchangeable assuming emissions compliance is not a concern.

The engine from my '80 (which I replaced with an '83 engine...) is now residing in my '85 GSL, after some minor porting work.

If you have to pass emissions, don't bother, since you'd essentially have to replace everything under the hood, the entire exhaust system, and much of the wiring. And a pre-dating engine swap is emissions illegal, anyway.

lol, no, I don't live in an emissions required area anyway so I can port and smoke ALL I WANT :P

The engine blocks are interchangeable, then. Do not under any circumstances use the thermal reactor without the air pump, solenoid rack, air control valve, and attendant wiring/ECU. You *will* melt it down. Use a header or the exhaust manifold from the '85.
