80 ALC switch

80 ALC switch
Anyone know what an ALC switch is? Apparently, it's unique to 1980 manual transmission cars. It mounts in the rear LH corner of the engine bay where the voltage regulator for the 79's are. I've never heard it mentioned in auto to manual swaps before, maybe cause it seems to be specific to just the one year.

My SA has one and off the top of my head all I know is that it's a barometric/bellow type switch for something in the smog system. I have never touched mine and still have it plugged in even though none of the original smog equipment is operational.
I feel like was mentioned in the Haynes manual when I was reading through it a couple years ago. I'd guess it and it's description are in the FSM as well.
Sorry for not being too helpful there.

From the Haynes manual:
Altitude Switch - In order to prevent damage to the thermal reactor that could result from an over rich fuel mixture when driving at high altitude, an altitude switch is used to turn on the trailing ignition when it would not otherwise operate. The altitude switch is located on the left side of the firewall.

I dug out my old Haynes manual but did not see any mention of it. Looked through the emissions, ignition and electrical chapters a couple times. Do you have a section or page number? I know about the altitude compensator at the base of the carburetor but have never heard of this switch that plugs into the harness before.
For what it's worth, I have a digitized, searchable copy of the Haynes manual that I'd be happy to share (a friend scanned it all for me a few years ago), I'm just concerned that may not be legally favorable. I haven't gone as far as setting up sections and subheadings, but you can "ctrl + F" (word search) the whole thing which is really helpful. If anyone knows whether that would be acceptable let me know, I've been itching to share it for years now .

Thanks! Yes, I see it now. I was on those pages too, it was there all along. Now, to see if I can find it in the factory manuals...pretty sure it is since a lot of the Hanes data is lifted from the factory info.
Is Hanes still in business? Thought I read where they went away or were sold. Doubt you'd get in any trouble for a searchable version of a 40 year old publication.
