79 heater fan switch repair?
none of the speed settings work on my fan switch . I saw this replacement switch on ebay ( including A/C that I have) but was wondering if the switch can be fixed another way ?

There is a resistor regulator near the fan motor. It has nichrome coils to drop the voltage depending on switch settings. Try the boneyard for a replacement. If they don't have Mazdas look for Ford Escort or Taurus, they're the same.

Switch itself is a snap to swap out. Your pic shows the entire heater controls assy, to which the switch is mounted.
-Tranny shift cover comes off -2 screws;
-pull ***** off radio;
-pop off 2 hex nuts holding radio shafts;
-2 screws at bottom of center radio panel;
-remove plastic rectangular panel above center panel (under the center vents);
-pull ***** off heater sliders (some versions are screwed on underneath);
-pull the ***** off the fan switch -
-ease the center panel away from the dash face. Watch for the light harness on the driver side - this illuminates the heater controls. Twist socket to detach...
-switch is now accessible
