400-450 Hp
#2
Well, There are 2 answers.. A 13BT will do the job.. but a 13B-REW is a little bit more reliable at those powers..
I am doing this right now with a built 13BT.. I am looking for ~400rwhp.. This should be good with a t04 60-1 .70 1.15 A/R divieded..
I should be able to hit right around 400rwhp with a very mild port job..

I'd stay away from the 20b. They can make a lot of power, but a 13bt can make that fairly easily. The 20b will end up costing quite a bit because of all the custom parts you will need for it. Granted you wouldn't be the first to make that conversion, but it's got to be more expensive.

RX7GSLSE, I like! That will be my new sig if you don't mind! J/K That is the reason my RX-7 is still stock. I'll be doing mild modding soon, ie exhaust and intake mainly... For now. Then when the money is more readily available, I will be doing some real custom work. I'll pick 2 and 3 then! I don't care what eventual HP will be, but perhaps it will peak the 400 mark. I just want a custom car that still resembles an RX-7!
Anyways, nice quote!

No they are not the same.. There are differences.. The rear plate is reinforced & is better for high HP.. It help you from getting torque fractures..
A 13BT will be as good making power(when ported) but after ~400RWHP you have to be carefull not to grenade the engine..
If you use a 13B like mine you might want to think about getting it pinned.. This is what my engine has done to it..

Yep, I am getting mine dowl pinned as well, even though I will be at approx 400hp, but will run higher boost under 1/4 mile track conditions.

LOL Kerry!
You are right that I don't have the $$$ to do it. I am still saving for a car. I do have enough for a 1st Gen. Hopefully I can get one soon. I am just thinking and learning. Thanks for the info guys. I hope someone else has use of some of this great info.

As More Power is still saving up foe his first RX-7 , its all rather an academic exercise.
RX7glse is quite right, if you have to ask the question you cant afford the answer.
I saw AJC13B's really impressive performance at the Summernats in the ACT and also saw how hard it is to get a 400-450bhp performance.
His website well describes how it can be done and the length of time involves. What would be interesting is the cost involved.
I have never seen a Gen 1 budget for such performance. But too quote Mike Ancas "Some budgets for 3G modifications have reached $50,000, and it is common for these enthusiasts to spend $100,000 or more on performance upgrades. " Will start a thread asking what are costs, is there a cheap way. In my circuit racing days in a Lotus, my budget was 1/3 of my salary plus sponsorship, and even then I struggled to keep up with the big boys.

The problem with the 3rd Gen guys is they all buy 'bolt on' kits. If they stopped buying all this bolt on crap for their car, well mechanical anyway, they would save a packet and probably make more HP. Here is a quick run down on what my car would cost. These prices are mostly retail, in AUD and do not include labour.
built como engine, 3mm seals, dowelled etc (will support 700fwhp+) $7000.
2 x 1650cc injectors - $500
TA45 based turbo - $2200
wastegate - $700
custom exhaust manifold - $500
custom front mount intercooler - $1500
Haltech E6K, bought, installed and tuned $2500
clutch (twin plate) - $1500 2nd hand
And thats just to have the engine sitting in your engine bay. Throw in coils, plugs, leads and all the other little bits and the price starts to get to the wrong side of $20k!
If you want reliable HP, you have to pay for it.

I know an easy and cheap way to get 400hp Steal Steve's car LOL J/K sorry steve had to do it...
By the way thanks for getting back to me with the cosmo 13bt-RE question I had
Is that included the core block? That honestly is rather reasonable for all the machine work involved and rebuilding etc... $7000 AUS is what $3400 or so US?
