4 questions

1. these tires are on craigslist and the guy is telling me they will fit my 84.... even though they are 3 inches bigger than my current ones. please confirm or deny.
universal 205/50r/16

2. Is it possible to put a '93 13B into my '84, currently 12a? better stated, how hard is it to achieve this with no shop, and very limited tools, and no fab skills/ mech skills.

3. someone please help me, My Freakin Heater is hell on my feet. it blows hot all the time, but on the vents it blows whatever temp i select, and i can control the amount of air also. Some days are noticeably worse than others. I have been instructed to get a book, i have gotten a chilton 78-89. They do not have the faq for this certain problem. Could someone please give me advice? ive been trying to fix this for a while and im close to duct tape... i dont want to use duct tape for this. please dont tell me to google it, as i have many times. many a time.

4th and final question,
my car bounces like a monte carlo after a bunch of mexicans get ahold of it( thats a joke harhar) only it happens when im on the highway and i hit a bump. someone told me i need new struts, but im kind of lost as to what that means.... ive googled it and i can order struts and springs or both, and i dont know what to get. My car is starting to get creaky everytime i bounce so i think its getting worse.

thanks for you help

Get a Haynes Rx7 manual also "The Bible" It will help with just about everything.

1. What is the lug pattern? If it is 4x100 it will not work. We have a fun 4x114... and there are not a lot of wheels out there with that.

2. Its vary hard...

3. Can you go from defrost/dash vent/floor, or are they all blowing at the same time? The more you say the better help you can get.

4. If you push down on the car dose it pop up, or dose it keep "waving"? If it keep going get your boat new shocks, but if you are getting shock just do springs too... why? well not

1) 16" TIRES will only fit if you have 16" WHEELS already. If you have stock 13" or 14" wheels, then no, they wont work. If you have 16" wheels already, then that size sounds pretty good for a 1st gen.

2) If you have to ask, then its unlikely you will be able to do it with the info you provided. A turbo 2nd gen engine (87-91) is WAY,WAY easier...... but still requires a fair amount of skill/resources/knowledge. Several people (myself included) have done the TII engine swap, so there is a pool of knowledge to tap into. Very few have done an REW engine swap, fewer still have done it with the stock EFI.

3) My 84 is the same way. Ive never bothered to try and fix it since getting to the heater plenum requires dashboard removal. I just live with it, which can be bothersome in a CA summer. I suspect there is a jammed plenum door or broken linkage somewhere. As long as Ive owned my car,the dash vents have never moved hot air, only outside air. The floor vents and defrost vents will move hot air only.

4) You need shocks. The rear has shocks with seperate coil springs. The front has a strut cartridge with the shock inside and the coil mounted on the outside. Just get new shocks (dampers) for all 4 corners. The rears will bolt right up, the front requires you to remove the springs, draw out the shock from the strut assembely, and install the new ones.

REW swap really isn't much harder than an S5 TII swap. Only differences are the water pump and you have to redrill some of the oil pan bolt holes. Also you'll have to deal with the airbox if you want to keep the stock twins. As engine swaps go, it's pretty straightforward.

1. no idea, not on the ad, but from what everyone else is saying it sounds like i gotta stick with 13's

2. oh well then, who wants to go faster than 110 anyways?

3. it fluctuates. its like a 50% what ever i choose, 10% on the other settings, and 30% feet. the higher i crank up the heat the hotter and harder it blows from my feet vents, even when the selctor is on vent, or defrost. selecting defrost defrosts my window over time, thanks alaska, but i mean its a weak weak weeeeaaaakkk defrost. How possible is it that one of my ducts went bad over the last 28 years? sorry this is hard to explain, and its not as if i can take a video of it. :|

4. ill check later today, im at work right now so i cant run out to my car...... BUT I CAN BROWSE RX7 FORUMS!!!!!

where can i get one of these bibles? the chilton one is good but it i feel its more geared to engine maitantance, and not super user friendly.
thanks

1: yes they will fit. I have that size on my front wheels (SA22C with 16x8 wheels) but if your wheels are not offset right then no it wont fit.

2: yes, if you are deticated and good at reading.

3: it sucks but that is how it is. maybe get a prop valve or something to shut the flow of coolant to the core off but that can be dangerous

4: classic strut or shock problem. get new ones they are pretty much dirt cheap.

1. It is getting more and more difficult to find 205/60 R13 tires, so you might want to think about new wheels, and maybe new axles, etc.

2. It is definitely possible. Not as hard as people say. Easier if you use an aftermarket ECU and single turbo. You will either need to adapt the chassis to use the rear mounts or adapt the engine for front mount. There are ample information resources, which allow anyone reasonably intelligent and mechanically handy to do it, and you can outsource what you can't do. If you just want more power, there are plenty of other options as well.

3. Easiest way to diagnose is look at what is happening, whether the vent door is opening properly and if the ducts are intact.

4. Follow advice above to replace, or upgrade.

1.) Depending on the bolt pattern the wheels may or may not fit. The size you have listed will fit but it just depend on the pattern.

2.) Um, yeah, Go with either a T2 or a NA 13B.

3.) Like T_G_ said the flapper is most likely stuck.

4.) New shocks and springs. You're fairly lucky, there are a couple companies that made direct drop in shocks. (Not expensive)

Get the Haynes manual has just about everything you need.

thanksabunch, 2 new questions

thanks. how do tires work? ive never bought rims before, so ive never had to deal with this problem, so i tried google and it just made me more confused. all the rims on like muffler city and tire rack etc say universal...... so where does that leave me? are they not universal enough? Am i the 400 pound guy thats shocked when he discovers he cant fit the one size fits all sweats?

and can anyone suggest out of experience good struts to get? my mech was telling me about these ones where you can adjust the stiffness really easily, or make them softer for when your just cruising around.

and is it weird that everytime i see a datzun z from afar i get excited, then i realise its not an rx7? :P

1.) Tires are somewhat universal.
Tires are designed to meet specific purposes; all-season, snow, performance, ect..

Now, you posted that some wheels you were looking at were 205/50r/16.

Breakdown-

205- cross section width
50r- 0.aspect ratio
16- wheel diameter

This link has a visual for you- http://www.vintagewheelworks.com/tech-wheel-height.php

Wheels are the same way. As long as the width, offset, and everything else do not effect your vehicles ride, they are universal. This is why you will see people riding around on another make or models wheels.

I have no personal experience with any other strut other than stock but Tokico is highly recommended by some and they Have an Illumina brand that is adjustable.

All of the 280Z's I've seen in my area are in worse condition than my car and are easily distinguishable.

Look in the rarest and hottest wheels thread in the non-technical section. Some people have posted their tire size, wheel size, and everything else there, so you can see what works.

Your mode door is stuck? The default on it should be to defrost... I have not dug in to a Fb dash so IDK how hard it will be to get in there.

All I can say is use the Search bar and go to Racing Beat and just look at parts, really anything on there is worth having on your car and better then stock.

The Datsun thing is normal, but it also happens with 924's and 944's alot.

weak defroster

I have an 82 .

I have read on here about srveral people having trouble with their defrosters. The problem is you select defrost, but thd majority of the air comes out the lower vents.

The majority of the answers suspect a stuck selector fleu, but mine is working fine.

What I found is that the floor vents have the fleu about an inch insode the vent port. On the bottom ofthe fleu it had foam in good condition, but on the top there was just remimence of foam. When I rubbed my finger on it, the stuff was all dry and it crubled off like dust.

I believr that is the cause of my problem. Can anyone confirm this, and recommend a way to fix this without removal?

" get creaky everytime i bounce so i think its getting worse." ---->points to a worn bushing on watts link, control arms........shocks/front struts also a possibility.

have you looked under the car? Meinke will put the car on a lift for free if you go in there under the guise of pricing out some repair. But don't trust their advice. They quoted me +$300 to replace the muffler when the connecting pipe is what really needed to be replaced.

"connecting pipe, oh we can't fabricate that, it has too many bends" (hello racing beat's exhaust!)
