3 inches under axle!

So I'm going to be running a 3" turbo back exhaust And I was wondering if anyone has run their exhaust under the axle? I know Mazda ran under axle on the IMSA cars. 3" is kinda big under a solid axle. If the Car was n/a and i was running 2-1/4" it wouldn't be an issue. So has anyone run under axle at all? If so what were your experiances and was the risk of scrapping worth the benifits. For those of you who don't know usually under axle on a turbo car is good for 4-5 whp. 3 less bends in an exhaust.

I know of a few people who have ran under the axel, and on my DD I plan on redoing the 2 1/2 under the axel.
First you need to make sure you have the ride hieght where you want it.
If you are going to lower it,do it first.

Keep in mind,
Less bends= better flow

True but no bueno if you live in an area with many speed bumps or humps.

Seattle is the wrong place for under axle buddy, if you're running a turbo then the small loss due the be bends will not be noticeable. Do what Earl did, run it out the side of the car if you really want to save a horse or 2.

I run 2.5" stainless under the axel and my car is lowered 1". Another benefit is the whole exhaust can be welded together as 1 piece, and it's only 4 bolts to take off the whole exhaust. Just go over bumps slow and it shouldn't hit anything.

I've got 2 1/2 under the axle it works fine. The header is lower to the ground than where it goes under the axle. As long as you drive slow over the speed bumps you'll be fine.

I ran a 3 inch under the axle of my peripheral port 13B 1st gen. Squashed the tube a little for clearance but it wasn't a big deal. I drove that car from Portland, OR to Gainsville, FL and back, so I know it works in Oregon, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. The other 40 states I cannot vouch for.

Why not do a side exit before the rear tires? Get the flat piping like stock cars use.

This is what I wonder about too. I have a 70mm (3 inch would be 75mm) exhaust, and don't like the over the axle bend very much. I'd prefer a under the axle system, but what with the axle fully extended?

My forklift doesn't fit under the pumpkin, I always put it unders the frame rails j/k

Now for a decent answer

he is referring to the car being on jackstands (on the frame) while the entire rear end is hanging down low.

There is also another option. Oval pipe. Allows for same flow while also allowing for better clearance.

You want to install a strap that goes under the axel, so that the axel cannot droop onto your fancy schmancy under axel pipe.

Use a tie-down type strap, like what you tie down a racecar with.

i am considering running under axle too....plus then when you angle your n1 ricer muffler up and on an angle you will have an excuse as to why its bent that way!

im a little worried about clearance too. the rear will be lowered about 2 or 2 1/2", but im running 205/50/15 which should bring it up a tad.

Yeah, it's really terrible to angle your exhaust upwards. I mean, gosh, you'd lose so much power from a less than thirty degree bend. Geez, you also wouldn't burn up your rear bumper. Man, that's such a terrible idea to point your exhaust upwards so that the gasses would exist without scorching your ****. Geez, I'm such a horrible person.
