3" exhaust under rear axle - opinions?

I know this isn't the ideal setup. But it's looking like I may have to do it on the widebody.

Since I have the granny's 8.8" rear end, with the optional heim links (for the watts linkage) I am not left with almost any room to bend 3" piping up and over the axle.

I believe I have come across pictures of others doing this before? My biggest concern is that when I lift the car up on a hoist obviously the rear end is going to float downwards and contact the exhaust. But I am thinking maybe I could strap the rear end up to retain tension on the springs (have to do it anyways due to stock struts and shorter springs)?

What do you guys think?

Dan

jack the body up to see how far it hangs down, if not too much then have the shop jack it up when they do the pipe so you have guaranteed clearance.

Monster trucks use several layers of nylon webbing (a la tiedown straps), I should think a single length could be used if you got creative.

i ran my 3" under the axle.

i don't have a lot of street miles on it, but so far its been fine, even coming out of the driveway.

at full droop the axle will hit it, but really that's just keeping me from being able to pull the springs out, not something that's going to happen in real driving

Send your shocks back to the factory and have their stroke shortened. Did it with my Bilsteins so my springs won't drop out when I jack the car. If memory serves, they didn't charge that much to do it. You might want to put a removable section in the exhaust with V-band clamps so you can drop the rear end without removing so much of the exhaust system.

I think he's talking about shop lifts. Of course with the jack you lift it by the diff and nothing droops.

I hav done a 3inch exhaust under the ax a few thousand times...I have never had any problems, there is plenty of clearance, and there was never ever no rubbing or contact with the ground..I wish i had pictures for proof to show you but trust me you will not have issues..it will be just fine...
