2nd gen Water pump

I searched "Waterpump, water pump, 2nd gen water pump, 1st gen water pump, compatible parts, 2nd gen, 1st gen to 2nd gen".

No threads answered my question. Does the 2nd gen water pump fit the first gen?

I still have my NEW 2nd gen water pump and my new (to me) 1sts gen runs hot when I push it, about half way on the meter. And the reservoir fills up. after normal driving for a while everything goes back to normal.

Does the 2nd gen water pump fit the first gen?

if the reservoir is always full, then its not the water pump. First, the radiator cap is not holding pressure. Secondly, if its overheating, I will check the radiator and the fan.

Would you look at that? Wacky will actually get off his lazy ***, come to your house, and check it for you. Altho, I'd watch him....he'll probably figure out a way to steal your car.

it will fit with no issues. in fact, its even lighter than the pre-86 water pumps.

I just did this this spring. I used a 2nd gen housing (yay! aluminum!), but I used a 1st gen water pump (which was also aluminum, a miracle). There were one or two mounting holes on the water pump that didn't match up to the housing, but I just coated it with some good sealant and haven't had any issues.

I'd guess I shaved close to ten pounds with this mod.

However, halfway on the temp gauge is about normal. But if it overheats at highway speeds, then you probably have a clogged radiator. If it overheats at idle, check the clutch on the fan. And go ahead and replace your radiator cap, they're only a few bucks and worth ten times that as preventive maintenance. Good luck...
