I was running mobil 1 sythetic. Pennzoil synchromesh available at autozone.

I dislike using anything with the "P" word on the label. Guess I just seen too many gummed up engines in my lifetime.

Mobil 1 synthetic is probably the reason your 2nd gear synchronizer ground in the first place. In transmissions, you don't want to use a full synthetic oil because it is "too slippery," it doesn't give the synchronizers any time to work. I use Coastal synthetic blend or Valvoline synthetic blend, and it works well.

I have found that using Lucas Stop Slip (made for automatics, but works in manuals) works well for solving grinding problems. If you use too much, however, it will not work until your transmission is warmed up.
