250+ horses out of a 12A
hey y'all im new to the rotary scene and my bud wants to sell me a 83 gsl for 900. he gave me a ride in it and i was impressed. so i may buy it, but if i get it i would like to create a ton of power. for starers i was thinking of a webbber sidedraft carb, and a street beat headers, and my home make dual pipe system. how much of a hp gain can i expect, and what can i do to get 250+ hp out of my 12a. anything helps thx

250 hp out of a 12a... hmm a mild street port, and 75 shot of nitrous maybe. wow you should just go with the 13b 6 port. i have the gsl-se and took the egi off. put a weber on it and i think that gave me about 20 hp. no exhaust and i can still grab 3rd gear. people tell me that when i get exhaust it should get me like 20 more hp.

to get 250hp, you will need porting. street beat? perhaps you mean racingbeat. i would not waste my time with a custom dual pipe exhaust. i would spend the cash and get a racing beat exhaust. to get 250hp, you may want a blowthrough turbo setup, upgraded ignition and fuel system. perhaps a weber like you said. with an exhaust and carb, you can expect about a 40-60% gain in power. try www.rotaryshack.com, www.racingbeat.com, or www.mazdatrix.com, or www.pineappleracing.com.

Does anyone have any dyno's on a 12a stock port with a turbo on a blow thru carb? I was curious what is the hp output is. I have heard claims but no one really has the dyno sheet. I just want to know what to expect when I finally get mine going.
Sorry for the thread jack, but it relavant to the subject.

There are people who find stock engines unstreetable! I'm one of them... damn thing has no low end torque and by the time you get to the powerband, it's like, "why bother?" Need more biggerful porting to make more low end, more midrange, more top end, all while sacrificing low load driveability.
Either that or get a bigger engine (artificially by turbocharging, or mechanically by yanking the wee little rotary and installing something that boings and has a lot of 'em)

Ya I don't even know if a 12a would be worth turboing. I've thought long and hard what I wanted to do with my 12a. So if I go to a bigger engine like the 13bt I now have 3 12a's which are no good to me.

go from dumping about 3000 into a civic and then buy a rx7 with a bunch of goodies......hehehe.....and then try and go back to civics.....the civic is now my g\fs. my rx7 is horrible on gas, but I love it. I find putting a 20 in the tank and using it all in one a good day....fun as hell. I can't drive my 7 so much cause of gas mileage but oh well. My exhaust can be loud as hell and sound like one of the guys down at the track but who cares its great.
