what ive been wondering is...
ok, without cutting the firewall, how far forward are we looking? (weight balance)
and.. lets say you want to go carb'd/n/a. you could probably recoupe some money on the intake manifold, and turbo's, no?
is there a place where you can get a manifold, and what kind of carb(s) would you need to be running?
im wondering if a 20b swap can be done on a budget? or are all 20b swaps automatic untouchable for budget people?
assuming you can neglect traction, turbo, and ecu issues, what else will cost so much?
also, as someone asked, can a 12a front cover bolt on to the 20b? if so you could make your own brace out of the stock fb brace (allowing it to move forward), and if you dont have traction, you can opt for a stock tranny since there wont be so much shock to the drivetrain.
i know people will say do it right, blah blah blah, but theres ALWAYS room for upgrading drivetrain later on.
what do yall think?

The things that you suggested to neglect are some of the very things that make the car fun, safe, and reliable. What fun is a car that makes gobs of power, but makes you quesy every time you step on the gas, for fear that the rear-end is going to get loose, and you could end up going down the street backwards, or for fear that the transmission is going to completely grenade on you the moment you get traction. Worse yet, the sinking feeling knowing that the stock 12A front cover, now strained to carry 2X or more the weight, and hold back 3x-4x times the torque,is likely to crack the the first bump you hit, or shatter the first time you launch the car.
You could go carb, but in any case, with a 20B you are going to have to pay the bucks to get it tunned properly. Other things that you should consider when shooting for more that 300hp, also include braking, suspension, and safety equipment, like a roll cage, harnesses, seats, fire extinguisher, etc.
People DO say do it right, and the reason: Its better to do it right once and enjoy it, then do it again, again, and again wrong, and constantly curse it.
