20B 1st Gen RX-7

Fuel tank, your best option might be to cabbage a 2nd gen tank for the pump/pickup unit and sump cup. Then you're assured of an adequate fuel supply and prepared for going FI. The FC sump cup has about 4-5 times the capacity of the SE cup.

Hmm, in order to get the cup out of an FC tank and install it in the '83 tank, would I need to cut them open?
This all depends on how rusty the GSL-SE tank is. If by the grace of god it can be cleaned up and used, it'll save some time and hunting/gathering.

Just an update. I've got good news and bad news.
The bad news: the rear stationary gear seal on the 20B is dripping oil. The apex seals are sloppy in their slots. It needs a rebuild before I drop it in the RX-7. I don't want to risk breaking a stupid three piece seal and ruining a decent rotor and housing. It will take a while to gather the funds to rebuild it. Definitely gonna use 2 piece.
The good news: I got the RX-7 today! At long last all the work etc has paid off. It couldn't have come at a better time since my REPU developed terminal u-joint trouble and I've been without a driveable anything for a couple weeks. Imagine that.
Thankfully I didn't have to be anywhere recently and when I did, I got a ride. My brother wants the REPU so I'll let him fund the repair work before he gets it.
In the mean time, I spent the last two weeks carefully building an engine for my MG Midget rotary project. I test cranked it today and got adequate oil pressure (something like 40 PSI at cranking speed = good). Now all it needs is part of the exhaust system replaced before I can fire it up. If all goes well on the test drive, I'll have enough info to go forward on another similar engine which I'll break-in in my other REPU for a while. It'll be nice to get that one running again. My Cosmo isn't reliable enough to drive right now due to starter, carb and automatic tranny problems. A simple manual swap should solve everything. All four vehicles need exhaust system work in varying degrees of severity, from just a length of pipe replaced to a full system from ports to back bumper.
This hasn't stopped me from preparing the RX-7 for the eventual upgrade. I already swapped in the FC NA starter that worked fine with the 20B before, and the FC alt. Since I now know the 20B needs to be rebuilt, I'm considering swapping the light steel flywheel onto the 12A rather than let it collect dust on a shelf for the next six months or whatever. Gotta get a better pressure plate at least. I think I decided to go with the stock style disc already on the car (it has low miles) and just get a street strip pressure plate instead of the XTD 6 puck sprung center system. Why? Because my friend's '81 has a supercharged 13B with an aluminum flywheel, stock style disc and SS pressure plate, and it is perfectly driveable and doesn't slip. It can break them loose in gear. If his is that good with the SC, mine will be ok with either the 12A or the 20B since both are NA. By the way it's actually pretty good with the stock '83-'85 27 pound flywheel, so I can't justify dropping the tranny just to change to the light steel unless I also swap to the ss pressure plate. I just gotta get one.
