#2 choke diaphragm valve for 1980 12A
While rebuilding a carburetor for a 1980 12a engine with standard geometry I was checking the various components to ensure they worked before putting them back on the carb. I found that the #2 choke diaphragm was leaking and slowly lost vacuum. I went to my parts catalog to identify the diaphragm part number but can not correlate anything based on the images (which are very poor) or part name. I got the name for the #2 choke diaphragm from the carburetor service manual but unfortunately that document does not have a part number for it. So does anyone have the part number? Or even better a source for a new one? Attached are a picture of the part and a page form the service manual (see item #20). Thanks for any assistance.

I think you may be correct. I see it on the fisch printout I have also but was not sure because it's called a choke return chamber. On the carburetor manual I have it is called the #2 choke diaphragm. Either way I have tried locating this part (plus one or two others I thought could be the part) by the Mazda part number without any success. If I can not find a replacement what problems would you expect other than a rough start?

Looking at the carb manual it looks like that diaphragms purpose is to slightly open the choke when the engine starts to keep it from flooding. I'd say you can replicate that by pushing the **** in very slightly when the engine starts and then let the choke do its thing and shut itself off as it warms up.

Looks like the same diaphragm is also used on 1982 models. (look at the diagram on P31 of the carb manual) Correlating this with the FB parts fisch is even more sketchy, it does not appear to be shown. However, the FB fisch does list a "choke set return" with the same 23-503 number sequence. Only It has an N201 prefix. (the prefix denotes the application I believe)
Mazda parts online does show one of these available, but its pricy.

The alternative I guess would be to look for either an 80 or 82 car or carb for purchase or parts and hope the diaphragm is good. How long before yours loses vacuum? Does it have to hold vacuum for s specific amount of time or is it just for the initial start? The tests for the #2 choke in the carb manual don't mention a length of time.
