1st gen n/a to 2nd gen n/a?
Ok, so I've been sitting here thinking. Before I go sinking all kinds of money into a 13bt conversion for the rex (since I really want to do it "right" (engine, tranny, aftermarket ecu, fmic, custom exhaust, ect..ect..) and that'd be "expensive". So, I was thinking. What did they change from the GSL-SE 13b to the 2nd gen 13b? intake and exhaust mostly. So I had a strange, crazy idea. (I *was* watching Initial D at the time, that might have something to do with it) Swap the ENTIRE 2nd gen intake manifold (AFM back to the lower intake), coils, CAS, and ecu.
With that I get direct fire with split trailing, a larger flowing intake system, and the better fuel maps of a 2nd gen.
The question is... is it worth it? What could I do to get the equiv. power gain out of the current setup? (and could it be done to the motor after the breathing mods for even *more* power)
Ok, mad scientist out.

it would prolly make a very minimal difference.
Cause the the 2nd gen N/A only makes a dozen or so more hp than the SE's
And you wouldnt gain that much cause the 2nd gen has better seals and lighter rotors, besides the better intake too.

I don't think its worth it, unless you are really bored or have cash to burn. The stock increse is only 11HP
here is the swap info for the intake

not going to a be a direct swap, you will need to modify either the lower intake manifold or adapt the upper to mate to the GSL-SE lower.
Going to be a pain to swap in the ECU, but you will gain a 2nd set of injectors, and be able to use an AFC to control more fuel, where we can't get one for the GSL-SE.
power gains will still be minimal on a stock block.
My advice is to get your car ready for the Turbo. Start buying the parts that you will need. buy what you can afford, intake parts, mounts, plan your attack ( I've been slowly buying my T2 parts) look for bargains! time is on your side.
In the long run you will be better off going to the T2 motor vs. upgrading to the 2nd gen intake. alot of work for minimal gain.
from the T2 swaps, they can be cheap or expensive, which is nice since they can fit alot more budgets. and are the better bang for the buck.
ok, enough rambling now
