aw, we make our share of mistakes too...

...but I think it takes a level of patience and maturity to own a 1st gen long term, since these cars are almost certainly second- or twelfth-hand ownership by the time we get them, and take a bit of TLC to get them back to fighting shape - or better

yeah, i agree. and everyone in this section seems to be a little older. it seems that alot of the people in the fd section just had their parents buy them a perfect FD to mess up.

hehehe ... you should check out the Gen II forum some time ...

on a more serious note, i think the biggest difference between us and them is the fact that most of us are quite willing to learn, and accept that we DON'T know everything! the other forums seem to have much higher concentrations of people that have overblown egos and a penchant for self-fellatio ...

yeah my car i bought, my motor i bought, my rear end i bought, new tires me again, and my brown recluse bite i got from working on the car. I bought them all and the only thing that my dad got me was a new 21 mm wrench cause he broke the old one.
if you parents bought you an fd please ask them if they will adopt me.

Man, the 2nd and 3rd forums are more like a lounge than anything. I love owning a first gen in this community. I think what propels us past others is that we're not necessarily older (hell, I'm only 18), but that we are willing to just try stuff and see how it works out. Then, if it doesn't, we try something else. Since there's not too much bolt on stuff for us (if big power is desired), we have to improvise. Also the fact that no one has a first gen that is so much better than everyone else's (although some come damn close to that), so we're all kind of equal.

I know when I frequented the 2nd gen forum with my nearly stock 88 SE (base model), I felt out of place because all the important guys had 300hp TII's or well-modded n/a's. Here, I feel comfortable posting with my grey/green/primer/bondo/steel paintjob, my jimmy-rigged oil cooler mounts, my cracked windshield, and my empty interior.

What I'm trying to say is..."I LOVE YOU GUYS!!"

Sorry, got carried away. *cough* I'll just talk to you all later. *cough* (shuffles off to garage)

Yeah, I'm here. I'm only 16, but I have bought everything for my car, with the exception of new tires for the new(to me) rikken wheels that I bought. But that is only because he bought tires for my brother. I also put in the time to diagnose and fix all the problems I have had(including getting the car running to begin with). Now if I can just figure out what part of the right front suspension I bent so I can replace that....

I've kinda come to a glittering generality about the owners of each generation. There are always exceptions to the rules, but, this, in my experience is how it shakes down... First gen guys have the experience and know-how with the cars, but not the money... Third gen guys have the money but not a whole lot of mechanical know-how.. second gen guys have neither... Sounds harsh, but it's my opinion... please don't flame...

I was lucky; I learned to drive stick in a military Iltis - out in the woods, with no traffic around if I stalled.

Plenty of hills though.

C'mon now, we're all rx7 owners, we all share the same passion...stop bashing the other gens..

The difference I see is that in the 1st gen section, alot of the threads centre around repairs and tuning, whereas in the other sections its more about modding (since the newer cars generally need less upkeep)

I'm with Chemical on this one, though we do our share of modding too.

first time i went to the second gen forum, i read a thread about some guy bitching out a ebay seller with an e-mail on his old project car. telling him about the shitty paint job (bondo on some places so it would be smooth) ugly kit (which i thought looked nice) stock wheels (didnt want to sell his nice ones) and were bashing because he didnt have an engine in it because he wanted to do the dreadfull piston swap, but the guy responded with a well written letter about how he knew rotarys in and out, blah blah blah.. i kinda felt sorry for the guy. he was getting bashed for trying to sell a project car.. and alot of people were in on that thread.. it dissappointed me to see other rex owners doing that ****

Well, look here for example:

Hey guys, I'm gunna drop a chev 350 into my car, instead of a rotary... I don't like rotaries 'cause they're not reliable enough, and don't put out enough HP for the gas mileage...

Well, I'm kinda old, and I bought my 83GS new in 82 (now has 110k and still like the day I bought it, well, almost), and I bought the 85GSL (with 49k miles, actual!) one month ago. Now I'm watching for a nice 85SE. I've owned several sports cars over the years, and I just plain like this little rotary. Goes well, and I LOVE the smooth whirrrr of the rotary.

me too, my dad drives a chevy powered rex, and i love the torque of the car, theres no way that my first gen's nose comes up when you slam it like my dad's car. but i love the sounds, and pull of the rotary, and just thinking whats pulling it..

but in the same sence, my point is that is all preference. im not trying to get into a rotary piston battle. but my point of view is that, its their car, not yours. being someone who has actually driven both, the chevy engine in a rex chasis is a great thing, handles almost as good as before, has SOOO much torque. it comes down to, what kind of racing you want. off the line, or auto x. i support both. im keeping the rotary in my car, but im saying, if someone handed me a built 350 with the money to do the conversion... it would be done. but im not going that route.. rotaries are GREAT engines, some people jsut want something else in their cars. my point is that they were attacking some guy about his project car that had no engine or tranny, and he stated he was planning on a ford swap.

sorry i wrote so much.. i just think people bitch about other rex owners wanting to swap their engines to a piston, its their car, leave it alone.

me and my dad spent 6 months doing his car, and that was 3 years ago and hes still messing with things. i think its a VERY badass car. it was a project for me and my dad to do together. everything was fabricated, everything was kept under $2200 i believe is what he said. and when you want power.. damn its there. and of course you could do that with a rotary engine.. but like i said earlier.. its a preference, and tats what i was saying about this guy on ebay
