1st Gen 12a gas Mileage

ok heres the deal as many of you know im leaving for kentucky this weekend,
the problem is my fuel level sender unit is bad so i have no clue how much gas it has???

so i need to know what kinda gas milage my car gets so i know when to stop and filler up,

heres my cars specs to help,

1984 GS 12a
direct fire msd ignition
racing beat header
stock carbie
stock fuel pump

with my setup im thinking it would get a little above average gas milage but i want average or just below average to play it safe,
its roughly a ten hour trip.

also does anyone know the capacity on my gas tank?

I believe the gas tank the gas tank capacity is 16.5. Please correct me if I'm wrong people.

As for gas mileage, I'm getting a average of 22-25 mpg on highway with my '83, with nikki carb. Holley carb is another question all together. hehehe.

i read somewhere that the non se should get about 30mpg on the highway mine never has gotten that good mileage, but when i upgraded the fuel pump it made a big difference in gas mileage in town so ill see this weekend how it does on the highway

here are the specs from the site

EPA Gas Mileage: 21 City / 30 Highway (Non GSL-SE)

Fuel Capacity: 16.6 US Gallons

distance i have to travel is 603.97 miles

i like to drive about 85-120 on the freeway so i will stick with 21 miles to the gallon

acording to the site i should get roughly 348.6 miles per fill up,

so i should only have to stop once and fill up on the way down,

i will stop at 300 miles and fill up to be safe then fill up again once i get in town by his house.

anyone see a flaw in my plan?

i figure with gas costing about $1.35 a gallon it will costs me $44.82 to get down there, roughly $80.00 round trip in gas not including driving while im there

LOL sounds like my driving... Well I used to get 250-285 miles per tank in the city mostly... Id stop and fill up at 275 miles if it were me after the first time, you can figure your miles per gallon on your own with a calculator...

See ya when you get here,... And bring some ho's

haha, always down for the ho's yo. gas has been 1.29 down here. also watch speeding on 121. the cops have a few hideouts. also on the i-24 there will be 2 bridges you will cross. DO NOT speed as you crest these, 73 max. there is usually at least one state trooper sitting there, sometimes 2 going in rotation. the wk has a raised median so they will cross and come get you in heartbeat if they want to. i normally run around 80, just keep an eye out. hopefully i can have my apartment cleaned up by the time you get here. i have carb parts, interior peices, dishes, manuals, magazines, tools, you name it all over the place. looks like a 1st gen exploded in my apartment.

Also, to be on the safe side, take about a gallon of gas in a can......... Never know, you might forget to fill it up....... My friend, and I did, on the way to his farm, but he always carries around 5 gallons of gas, because he usally runs out every where............. stupid ford.......

if your tire psi is low you will lose a lot of mpg
you can get 20 mpg at 20psi, and get 30mpg at 35-40psi.
i'd put is a few psi below the tire max.

I averaged 17-18mpg completely stock at typical driving for a Rx-7 owner. I drove exactly 55mph once and got 29.5mpg, but no one anywhere does that, because you'd be a hazard to everyone else on the road.

With the bridgeport, 44mm 2barrel carb, During breakin which you can't drive hard, i got 16mpg. I expect 12mpg when driven normally.

I agree, 30 mpg is a tad high. I get somewhere around the 19/24 range city/highway, although I haven't calculated it in a while.

You people are sick. With my old carb, I'd get about 110 miles on a tank. But I'd usually fill up with about a third to go. It'd be between 11 and 15 mpg. Not sure what it is going to do with the new(er) carb. It's still a nikki, but it's possibly modified.

How do you people get these numbers? Of course it's not my daily driver so usually it's around town and driven hard. And especially since up until a few weeks ago gas was $0.85 a gallon, I didn't really care .

I have read somewhere that gas milage goes down quickly as wind resistance goes up above 5o mph. Cruising at 78 in my se last week on a 500+ mile trip I averaged 20.5 mpg. Why risk walking? Gas up after 100 miles and you'll know exactly how often you'll need to fuel in the future.

You all are lucky. I get about 140 Miles per TANK. Everything is working right and the mixture should be correct. Bone stock GSL. Got me what the problem is, lol. Tires are ok i do believe. O well, its probably becase its the original fuel line/tank.

well i guess i will gas up every 200 miles to be safe and see how it goes.

i will just bring a calculator and watch the trip odometer to figure the math
