1984 Rx7
Ok so in my browesing for a new vehicle i came across a 1984 mazda rx7 5 spd its at an import shop ... the guy let me take it for a test drive it drove pretty well ... the drivers side window rolled down very slow ... and the passengers side window wouldnt roll down at all the interior was a lil bit hashed but seat covers could fix that i drove it around a bit ... it had quite a bit of pickup and go .... speedometer didnt work ... it would also need some new tires as well as an entire new sound system ... it had no radio ... so i'd have to add all that i have a deck i can use in my current " camaro" that went belly up but he pretty much told me i could get it for 600 i was wondering if i could get some input onto how much work i would need to fix the windows ... etc .. speedometer .. it was at an import shop so he told me i could get the parts to fix the speedometer with it ... any input would be greatly appreciated .. body was in very good condition with a lil bit of flaking on the paint ... thx in advance everyone.

welcome to the forum...
1. check for rust in the rear wheel wells
2. if the shop can, have them do a compression test
3. do a search on other issues to check for when buying an rx7...
and post pics ASAP!

i think a compression test should be around 8-9...anything lower and you know you won't have long with the engine...
like said....i think...do a search on compression test and you'll get lots more info.
for suspension...i got springs for $159, shocks and struts for $140, bushings for $159 and tires for $200...
and thats not for top of the line race suspension...it depends what you want to do...but my setup is to be as close to stock as possible...some people like it stiffer...

as for the speedo, it may have gotten unhooked from the back of the cluster. sometimes people unhook them to remove the cluster and they break the tab on the clip that holds the cable to the cluster. you may want to see it there is even a cab le hooked up to the transmission. 112K should be fine for the car. the windows are prob in need of some adjusting.

well guys got some pics of it ... talked to the guys at the shop they told me that ... they would fix the speedo and the lights ... and the windows ... but they would want 800 for it if they did ...
There wasnt rusted out wells in the back wheel wells the head lights wouldnt flip up ... it would need new tires to pass inspection ... they assured me that it would pass emissions today the engine idles very well
it sat there running for 10 mins while i talked to the guy so it didnt studder or flake out at all im thinkin about going for it ... i also got some pictures of it i may go bring it home tommaro if it all works out but yeah any peeps on here from utah? or to be more specific ogden area ... but yea we shall see....
do you guys think its worth 600 with the problems ive described... seems like it would be a great project car however i would need it to get me to and from work ....

If the car has only 112 ish miles on it, it has a long way to go. Remember to drive a higher rpm's than you are used to. I always try to stay above 2500 rpm's while driving and hitting the redline is a good thing. Take the plunge and you will be hooked. This forum is very helpful for getting input on fixing yourself.

I'd say go for it at $600. On the wheel well rust, did you take the storage bin behind the seats out and look? On mine, you couldnt see the holes from the outside of the wheel wells, but it was there. Don't let that change your mind, just will need to be dealt with.
You'll be hooked!
