1984 rx-7 exhaust questions

Hey guys,

I drive a 1984 rx-7 with a modified exhaust. Right now i am running racing beat headers and proformance exhaust. I have a 6" round body by 24" magnaflow muffler coming right off the headers. And a HHK can muffler on the back. I can't remember the name of it. Its got a silencer that reduces it too like 1 1/4" piping. The whole exhaust is 2 1/4" piping and the car is super loud still. I was wondering if anyone knew what a good exhaust would be to run on the car to quite it down. I was thinking of puting the stock one back on. But thought i would ask on here if there is a better soultion to keeping some of the power gain. I figure if i do a offset design or like one of the proformance replacements that aren't straight threw i would probably gain horsepower since the silencer cuts off so much exhaust. I have already spent $1,200 dollars on the exhaust system so i kinda want to get the last part right.

the absolute best exhaust you can buy is a racing beat exhaust. www.racingbeat.com

to quiet your exhaust down, you will need to install a presilencer from racing beat or just get a rb exhaust. a muffler directly off of the header will not last long in a rotary. i have seen many cheaper mufflers installed in their correct location be cracked apart and the packing blown completely out.

Too bad your already spent that much, the RB SP system is less than that, and as far as the reviews on this forum go, will last way longer than anything that can be custom fabbed. of course, i ordered on and its costing me a fortune due to taxes/duties/shipping. But meh, I'll pay for quality

I've got the Racing Beat "Street Port" exhaust and have a friend who just has the regular Racing Beat exhaust system. Both are perfectly streetable noise levels and they sound gorgeous. Nice low note, no "tinny" sound to it, it won't wake up the neighbors under 4k rpm, but open the secondaries and you'll get a bit of a growl on the highway Even then it's not too bad.

*highly* recommended. Their presilencer and muffler make all the difference. The headers just give performance, and compared to a stock exhaust manifold actually increase sound, so you have to have the rest of the system to enjoy the sound of it.

Mines not to bad at idle and under 4k. Once I get over that its like a jet engine is taking off over head. This is partly because the car doesn't run right. Just sick of people giving me the finger when i drive by. My exhaust sounds awsome. I just don't know what i can install that won't burn a hole into it and into my pocket. The only other thing i can think of is bottle necking the exhaust.

Lol, over 4k mine *feels* like a jet taking off, but doesn't sound like it.

You've already got the headers, get the muffler next, then grab the presilencer whenever you get a chance.

Though maybe your exhaust sound isn't what's making them give you the finger?

Does anyone know if the stock mufflers have packing in them? Mine just looks like its a resinator. The pipe goes in at an offset and has a chamber where two pipes are continuing down the muffler and out the back. Is there another chamber after that one? If there is no packing i will just slap that back on and it should quite it down. I don't even care about power anymore. Been pulled over too many times by cops and had to many dicks walk infront of my car and come up to my window to yell at me to care about a few horsepower.
