1983 Rx 7 Gs

Hi. I am considering buying a 1983 rx 7 gs from a guy near my house. He said it has 200,000 on it and im assuming thats miles because i dont think he would have converted it. It has almost no rust on it and the paint isnt in that bad of shape. I havent herd it yet but the engine suposively runs strong and it has a Flowmaster 40series on it "i dont know why that would be the exhaust to choose for this car and im not sure how it would sound?" The engine is stock and the interior is in good shape. It has been sitting for 2 years now because he has another car and this one was not driven , the sitting has not added much to the rust because as i have said it has almost none. The suspension might need a little bit of work but not right away and is definately driveable the way it is. All the power windows and mirrors and everything work fine. Im guess it has the stock stereo but forgot to ask him. New battery. I am going to go back and look over this car closer. He wants $1800 canadian so ruffly, $1535 american. I dont have any pics so i no it is hard to tell but im wondering from what i have told you if it is a good deal for me. Just asking for your opion thanks a lot, you guys are the experts.

Thats a little high for a parked car with 200K,but not by much.If you think its well taken care of and everything works then go for it.Haggling over a couple hundred bucks isnt worth it if you end up with a nice car that serves you well for many years.
If it was an SE or maybe a GSL, it'd be more a bargain.
Sure its a GS? Usually they have manual windows.
Are there rear discs or cruise control?

He might have added the power windows.
The SE has the injected engine,so its easy to spot.
The GS and GSL are very similar. The way to spot the GSL is that it has all the interior power options and rear disc brakes. But,any GSL options can easily be adapted to a lesser model.
Its not bad if he added anything.More options usually help a sale.
But some people dont like a car thats been tinkered with from its factory setup.

ya im preety sure it had rear disk but my memory is failing. it had gs badge but that could have easily been put on. He is not the original owner so the guy before him may have put a different badge on or added the power and rear disks. so if i got it for 1600 canadian would that be a good deal, i no it has a lot of ks but the body is in such good shape.

Don't let the mileage concern you too much. I have an 83 GS with 195,000 miles on it, and it runs fine. With proper maintainence, these engines have been known to last 300-400K.
If the car runs good, and appears to be in good condition with little to no rust, it should be a decent deal.
The main thing to remember, this is a 22 year old car, so it WILL have some minor issues. You just need to ask yourself if you can deal with them.

ok thanks for the post, thats good engine length. I am prepared to deal with anything that may orize and understand this is an old car and will have some problems. How do you think the flowmaster 40 series will sound i havent herd it yet but will in 2 days? is that pipe ok for the car or should i switch it?

A freind of mine has a 79 RX-7, with a flowmaster. I don't like the sound of it. He isn't real fond of it, either. Nor are his neighbors.
The sound of most mufflers of this design is not very pleasant on a rotary, but there could be exceptions. His almost sounds like it has massive exhaust leaks, even though the entire pipe was replaced at the time the muffler was installed.

Dude, If it really is that clean, 1500 CDN isn't a bad deal. Just check it out, then tell us what's up with it. The muffler isn't really a problem, you can just take the muffler off if it bothers you
