1980 Rx7 sa Worth The Money? Idel Issues

Hey there guys, i just purchased a 1980 rx7 gslsa i got for 200.00 bucks and its in great condition but it didn't run. I got it running today but she is chugging. I dropped the gas tank chemical cleaned it and replaced the fuel filter. Its still chugging and i am going to fix all the fluids. I just wanted to know if it would be profitable to dump money into this or just get it running and sell it.

Also where can i find the idel control. It keeps dying if my foots not on the gas and i need to adjust. Any ideas will help me out. THanks

Hmm, the GSL model didn't come out until 81. Does it have disc brakes in the rear? If the car has sat fo a while, the rest of the fuel system may need cleaning. Run a can of Seafoam throught the tank, if that doesn't help, you may need to pull the carb and go through it.

True, i dont mind putting the money into it, i just want to drive it for awhile and then be able to make money from it. I do all my own body work, i have a paint boothe, and shop to do all the work, you guys know more then i ever will, so i thought i would ask if it would be worth my time, or just turn it and make a quick buck.

Your asking the wrong guys about this. We are RX-7 enthusiasts. We generally do not buy the cars with the thought of how much money can we make on this car. We buy them because we enjoy the car.

True that but not 100% on old school (the real keepers).

If you are just looking to turn a quick buck off it, I would say, do a little on it and find someone who is willing to dump the money into it. But be honest about problems. Most of us, when we buy these older RX-7's are expecting some issues and expecting to spend a buck or two to get everything right, and tight.

Here is what I can offer, Fuel system clean, maybe a carb rebuild, load it up with a tank of Super Unleaded, take it for a ride and get into it. Chugging may also be partly faulted to an older exhaust system, or a clogged cat. A lot of times, if it hasn't run in a while, putting your foot into her may clear out a little carbon. And if nothing else, at least it is fun to do.

First I have to ask. What is the purpose of bringing this 2 week old thread back to life?
2nd). What is Super unleaded going to do for our engines?

I like SA's. I also agree with buying the car for the car and not the cash.

dont run super unleaded, run basic. theres a reason mazda used 82 octane in their race cars.

It probably needs a carb rebuild. It probably also has vaccuum leaks. For 200 dollars, if the body is clean, I'd say keep it and get it up to par. It would be a great fun car.

If you just bought the car to flip it, well, it should have went to another person. Someone who is going to appreciate the car and want to turn it into the driver's car it once was.

I bought my GSL-SE for $2000 and have put nearly $1000 into it. Totally worth it.
