k, so we don't have 18 fans out there, so I'll stick with 17's . I don't agree on the rice look concept, I wanna keep my car far from rice..... I do disagree that putting 18's on your seven make it ricey, but to each his own.....

Rice = show, not go.
Anything over 16" is at the point of diminishing returns, where the rim is heavier and provides a harsher ride while offering little to no cornering benefit, the main advantage to low profiles in the first place.
To sum up, 18" will actually take performance away from your car to add flash, ergo rice.

17's are as big as I'd go, any only for the look.
I have both 16's and 17's with the 17's actualy coming in a pound lighter than the 16's with tire. 205/45/16 vs 205/40/17
The ride is a bit more harsh with the 17's and your choice of rim with help with any pot holes or curbs should you hit any, I've came into a few good "bumps" and the curved lip nature of my rims held up, when I was for sure I dented them.

If you say anything apart from a very specific path that "every" rotorite it supposed to follow, its rice.
I dont give a **** what people call rice, especially the hipocrites on this board man. Go for 18's if you want, i would only go 17's personaly. i have 16's right now, and i love them.

yeah....I've heard people say they have a little bit of a rubbing problem occasionally if they have 17's and a slightly lowered car. 18s would rub alot, especially on turning with the front wheels.
I'm interested in swapping some GSL-SE hubs so I can install my 17" Motegi wheels, but I dont think I'll be lowering the car anymore than it is.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
i tried 18's on my car, but the wheel/tire was hitting the bottom of the spring perch in the front, but they did fit the rear , with no problems!the only way to fit 18's would be to go to a coil-over type strut in the front , then they would fit! on of my cars has 17's on it and it rides great! , however it did slow the cars acceleration down, it still moves good! and it corners great
p/s the 18's will raise your car alot! , my car was slammed with 15's but now it looks alot higher with the 17's

for reference my tire size is 215-40-17 all around
GS model with every GSL-SE part except the motor!

but with such a low profile you have less flex, therefore the contact patch doesn't 'spread' like it does with a slightly smaller rim

j200proof is right on the larger diameter will give you a way larger patch than the smaller one!

A mate has 18inch versions of my rims on his 1st gen.
The car sits a little high, but acceptable. No coil overs, minimal guard lipping on the front and no dramas at the back.
They fit, just make sure the offset is spot on....

An 18" rim with the same rolling rubber diameter as a 16" rim will have less flex in the tread, and will therefore have a smaller front/rear contact patch than the 16" rim.
For roadrace application, using an 18 inch rim on such a small overall wheel size is nuts. One good bump will bend the rim, and at speed that gets messy. In addition, the lower profiles increase the already soft-on-center FB steering's sensitivity to bumps, making a straight line more of an effort.
Again, it's diminishing returns. a 16" gives you stiffer sidewalls over stock, good for autocrossing and other medium speed, high maneuverability applications, with a minor tradeoff in straight-line handling. An 18" will give you very little sidewall advantage over a 16" in real-world cornering, while exponentially increasing straight line handling problems and rim damage potential.

Not to mention wearing out the steering and suspension components prematurely.
That first red 7 with the 18s looks kinda high to me.
And isn't Hulk Hogan actually from Oregon?
