Talking 15.852 @86.94 on a pretty much stock '85 GS

Just got back from the dragstrip, and ran a 15.852 @86.94 best ET, and 15.879 @ 88.50 best MPH. My '85 GS is stock aside from a $95 exhaust system (still has the thermal reactor, but theres just a cheap pipe back from there to the muffler. Only other thing I've done to it is removed excess weight. Pretty good for a car thats supposed to run 17.2 stock

Keep in mind I do not have a SINGLE performance part on the whole car, lol

Reaction: .681
60 ft: 2.246
594ft: 9.571
1/8 ET: 10.194
1/8mph: 72.26
1/4 ET: 15.852
1/4mph: 86.94

that was my quickest run, lost to my friend's camaro by 3 tenths... but pretty good considering he has 8 more cylinders than me

You should be able to drop your 60' time by another 2 or 3 tenths which should put you in the low 15s.

Now for the bad news: I blew out one rear shock on the way up there, and the other blew out on the way home, so she's bouncin all over the friggin place, I had a clogged fuel filter so I jerry rigged it together without the filter to make it home, the radiator sprung a leak, there are some godaweful terrible sounds coming from the rear suspension(sway bar end link broke, plus i think one of the connections to the left rear suspension has rusted completely through

On the plus side the stock 12A still makes decent power at 10,500+RPM (guestimated RPM from length of time while accelerating after the RPM needle was pegged... and from the insane noise coming out of it, lol)

She's a rusted out POS, I had to see what she could do, if she blows, oh well, lol

haha, the funny part is that all the stuff that broke was unrelated to the torture I put the engine through. Most of it happened on the way there, lol

Woah dude... Keep it below 8K.. the apex seals begin to skip and chatter across the interior of the rotor housing after about 6.5K RPM... Power band for a stock 12A pretty much maximizes around there anyhow...

On a somewhat related note, should the 60' times for almost any passenger car be about the same, as it's mostly the launch from there? If so, I could practice launching in the Civic... Burn up that clutch.

It depends on the power and drivetrain. FWD generally has longer 60' time as the weight transfer takes grip away from the drive wheels when you launch hard. However, if would be a good idea to practice on the beater car as the technique is the same. Mazimize the grip threashhold while keeping the engine in the powerband. When you go back to the RX-7 from a Civic, expect you to be dropping or dumping the clutch at higher engine speeds because you'll have more traction off the line, but the throttle modulation idea is the same.

I find my first gen very easy to launch, dump the clutch around 4500rpm for a quick spin of the tires, then off it goes.
