13b rebuild damaged?

13b rebuild damaged?

Ok so i found a motor for my 13b 6 port, It was rebuilt by atkins rotary, i went to take a look at it, its still like it was when it came from atkins, looking in the exhaust ports i can see its still packed full of assembly lube it turns over freely, here where im a little concerned , there have been no plugs in it since it was rebuilt, and no oil pan. Im just wondering if the engine could have some problems from it sitting so long and not run. it hasnt been run since its been built so its not like theres carbon or anything built up, Im more worried about spiders and dust just getting in there. anything i could do to make 100% i dont have any crap in the engine? its not like i can put the whole barrel in a parts cleaner.also the water pump isnt installed and thats been open the whole time also. Oh and the guy im buying it from said he would write a recipts showing if the engine didnt run, he would refund me half my money. Also The housings have #'s and 2 guys signatures both with the last name atkins, the motor was ported by them, do they usually put there names on it? any info on how to prep this thing for install would be so great..

Take the numbers on the housings and contact Atkins. They may be able to help. I purchased a 12A in similar shape. It was brand new. You could tell by looking at the engine that this was the real deal. The numbers on the housing had the year in it also. My engine only had one rotor housing stamped. When I called Atkins they said that it was one of their engines but that they didn't have record dating back that far.

As far as things to look for. The water pump housing not being on is not a big deal. Unless it sat outside for a long time and got water in it so it could rust. I've heard of that happening. The biggest thing I could think of would be the springs on the apex and side seals.

zukied, i don't think u have anything to worry about. sounds like it's been kept out of the weather. put it in a car and fire it up and let us know how it runs.
