13b to 12a front mount HELP
I need some information form you rx7 guys. I’m in the process of mounting an ’86 supercharged 13b into a ’70 Porsche 914. This is my question, what parts from what years do I need to convert this 13b so that it will have the front four mounting bolts like the older 12a? Just any front 12a cover? Oil? Sumps? Ect… I’m trying to get this one done so that I can have it for this years seven stock. Any information would be great.

Yes any front cover off a 12a or 13b from a 1st gen willl work but you may have to swap over a 13b oil pan from a 1st gen also. I THINK the oil pan on the 2nd gens are a little shorter than the 1st gen 13b's. I know that the oil pan from a JC cosmo 13B-RE is a little shorter than the 1st gen 13b because it mounts from the back and I had to swap over oil pans to make the front cover from the 1st gen 13b fit.
Oh yeah, if you do swap oil pans you will need a 1st gen 13b oil pump pick up tube.
Good luck!

And don't forget an oil return for the SC if it's oil cooled...
The GSL-SE front cover has a punch-out for one.

I'll get some pics up soon for you guys. This is what I have done so far... 1983 911 sc front suspension with larger brakes and large sway bar, 15X6 fuchs, toyo T1-s 195X50 tires, Renegade hybrids front cooling system, renegade hybrids front air dam, renegade hybrids competition seat, 5 pt harness, Koni sport full adj all around, 150lb springs on the rear with fully adj spring perches, BMW 320i calipers on the rear, 1986 13b NA with the smaller (6.5 lbs of boost)Camden supercharger, Mazda artic silver paint, plus some other little things. This is one of the nicest 914’s you’ll see. An as I said hopefully you’ll see me at seven stock this year. I’ll be going with R1Race who has a black ’93 R1. Here is a picture of it Just after it got back from the body shop last year.<img src=http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/65270ae9/bc/My+Photo+Album/B4.jpg?bc.C9W9Affz6mCG7align=right>

I have a few more questions for you guys... 1st if I use a stock 12a front cover will the 12a oil meetering pump bolt up (I only need 2 oil lines with the SC). 2nd what about the 13b water pump or pullys? 4th would I be able to get away with out running an oil cooler if I have a very eficent cooling system? 5th what years and models oil pans will bolt to the 13b with the 12a front cover. 6th what other options would you recomend? I have been more partial to the 12a because I wasn't able to find any gsl-se in the local yard. Thanks for your help.

the 12a metering pump will bolt to the 12a front cover, but the 86 metering pump will not. the 86 pump will bolt to the gsl-se cover (its the same pump). the 12a and 13b water pumps are basically the same. the only thing you gotta watch out for, is in 86 when they made the pump out of aluminum, the pulleys are spaced differently (i think). a good oil cooler is a must, if you can find one use an 86+ cooler. i think any 13b pan will work on any 13b. the 2nd and 3rd gens mount thru the pan, but if you are mounting on the front it doesn't matter. the gsl-se pans are not expensive. i dont know what kind of room you have for a pan, but if you could get a bigger one that would be good

The 13B TII aluminum water pump housing must be ground to clear the GSL-SE front cover. No big deal if you have grinding tools.
The GSLSE front cover is longer than the 13B TII front cover. The GSL-SE oil pan is necessarily longer to fit with the longer front cover. You must swap the oil pan anyway to clear the steering.
Contact Hayes Rotary for a GSL-SE front cover, and Mazdatrix for an oil pan if you really need them.
