12bp rough idle steady rpm power surging at steady driving speed & backfire @ high r

okay so i've pulled this rattly piece of scrap out of the end of my muffler,
and also fixed an exhaust leak i discovered. sounds a bit better, but other than that there are no other noticeable differences.
I tried tuning the carb again but still no luck with that and i have now run out of funds this week to get the new distributor cap and rotor i put it through a warrant and got a new reg, so thats on hold till next payday.
this is getting frustrating lol.

Na don't think so. compression is the same on all 3 faces and no real problems starting or driving it, Just splutters when i hit secondary's, which could be a separate issue. It's not maintaining it's constant lumpy idle like it used to. Goes brap brap brr brrrrrrrr brap brap brap brap br brrrrrr lol. thanks though

Today i had a breakthrough!
After mucking with the carb for aages & sanding the points slightly i have done it! The carb needs a little more tweaking but its driving a heap better and best of all it's pulsing hard! The mix may be slightly rich i think and im unsure if the idle speed is bang on but its sounding crisp. The problem with the carb now is mainly the accelerator position assembly. It has been modified and slips around a bit varying its position and varying just enough that the idle goes flat. It's very temperamental, but ive achieved the results ive been looking for for now. It didnt like idling at 2000 rpm as much, it's much happier at 2500. Thanks to everyone for all your input!
