12a streetport w/turbo VS. 12a bridgeport
#27
why not a turbo II swap? Its going to be cheaper and easier in the long run, and besides, the 13B turbo was built from the ground up with boost in mind. And there are so many parts for the 13B turbo, when the funds allow it, i will get my grubby little dick beaters on one.

thekyl- yes a turbo efi 12A is a great set-up. The Japanese only GT-X with this set-up was by far the best stock gen 1 produced. Mine running with standard ports and turbo but with a FMIC produces 215rwhp at 10psi and is one of the best daily drivers I have owned.
You can convert a stock 12A to efi easily as several firms produce throttle bodies, for example Injection Perfection. The original 12A T came with two large injectors but four would be an improvement. By combining 12A/13B parts, streetporting and using a T04 turbo you can end up with a great 12A turbo efi engine with 250rwhp on a very streetable car. It would outperform any bridgeport except for noise, fuel cosumption and pollution levels achieved.

So it sounds like street porting my 12A with a Turbo install (@8-9 PSI?) is the way to go with my GSL. Those who got the 12A Turbo, which turbo did you go with and what other modifications did you get? (ie. did you get rid of the beehive oil cooler and go with the other older style oil cooler? did you get the underdrive pulley's? intercooler? blow off valves? wastegates? turbo timer? direct fire ignition? intake manifolds? fuel pump/regulator? exhaust system? remove the rats nest? better oil pressure pan or whatever it's called, etc..) PLEASE let me know. That's about the range of power that I'd like to be in and most importantly when I get this done, I plan for it all to get done at once; not over time. That is why I'd like to know now what you 12AT pro's have to say and while I still have your attention!
Thanks for your input, opinions and suggestions!!!

Also: If I had the money I would've done the Series 5 tii conversion a long time ago. too bad it's so damn expensive. I've also thought a lot about the 13B swap as well but after everything's been said and done I'd be better off buying a GSL-SE and then start all of the conversions there and save the time/money/energy. Lastly, I'm not so sure about superchargers... I like the fact that you get faster acceleration and the reliability but I'd rather have a turbo for the power and the little expensive trinkets that follow

Basicly my point is I cant get a 13b except a few guys that I might have a deal worked out with but other then that I cant even touch a used blown up one for under 600 at least that's shipped and a decent one for 1K and I dont know about the rest of you guys but I have to pay bills and debt and all that crap and still try and make my 7 a nice car. I tell you what I will trade 4 of the coplete 12a's I have for any one 13b complete running or not just as long as I can rebuild it and you have yourself a deal .... now see how many people chime in on that bargin .... yea right most people want the 13b's which is why demand goes up price goes up. Hell I couldnt talk a guy out a 6port 13b that had been sitting in his field a field mind you for 5 years he would let it go for anything under 400 I mean COMON guys 13b's are great and all but I want something I can build for under 500 including a turbo ..... now dont tell me it cant be done all you need is some nice people willing to help some other nice people out .... if any of you ever meet me I the guy that drops everything to help a friend get his car running help show him how to change his oil whatever it takes. I sent a guy on the forums a Oil Cooler line for the 12a and he only paid 25$ shipped I paid 14 for a wrench to get the thing off because I have obviously lost my other one and 6 bucks to ship it so I came out with 5$ which I gave my wife. So what this all boils down to is I'm more looking to see if anyone has made a custom FI turbo setup using the stock 12a block and internals with little to no problems. Obviously this will be a totaly custom job so there will be nothing but problems but at this point I cant spend any more money only time making my rx run again.
Wow now that I read that its ugly ..... humm ohhh well

First of all... yes, that is my car on RXTuner. That was before I chrome the wheels.
Anyway,
Here are some of the mods:
12A Turbo w mild Street Port + Polished
Racing Beat Intake Manifold Ported + Polished
Holley 650CFM Pressurized Carburetor w 1" spacer
Garrett T4E Turbo / .69 Compressor P-trim .69 Turbine
Turbonetics Carburetor cover and Wastegate
Custom 3" downpipe w presilencer & 3A Racing Mufler
Custom Turbo Manifold for 12A (ask me if you want to know how is done)
Custom front mount intercooler
I did get rid of the beehive oil cooler and got the better oil cooler
MR dual Pulley
1980 Distributor w MSD 6AL ignition box and coils
TurboXS blow off valve
BOSCH 16-25 PSI fuel pump(regulated at 5-6 PSI idle and 9-12 at higher RMPS)
Let me know what else you need to know.

Going to ssglopezvm's webpage which shows more details of his car is worthwhile. It's a great looking car and the $12,000 project cost was obviously well spent.
As I said earlier turbo streetport is far better than going bridgeport in a streetcar. It will cost more but what you end up with is performance throughout the rev range.

Other than that there's many ways you can turbo and/or fuel inject a 12A. You can adapt 13B manifolds to it, run an aftermarket Weber style throttle body etc. I suggest you do a search as there's more than enough info available.

has anyone here built a 12a bridgeported and turbo'd? As far as reliability, I know its probably about nill, but what do you all think? Or would it be useless? Maybe just turbo a Half-bridged 12a? Opinions, experience? I know what it all would take in parts and stuff, just kind of an idea Im tossing around....
