12A rat's nest removal question(s)

I'm partially through the removal, following the step by step in the FAQ's. I am unclear on some things though. If it doesn't say what to do with a hose or connection, do you leave it as is, or plug it. For example, page 8 says " here you can see the AAB removed" then it shows you where to plug one of the connections running to it. Am I just missing where it says what to do with the rest of the hoses going to it? Do you remove the AAB completely? These are the kinds of things I am wondering about. All ridicule is welcome if I'm being a dummy, but I'm not ripping anything else off the car until I get some sort of answer.

When you read through the entire tutorial, everything should end up being addressed.

It was written and photographed from when the emissions were removed from my car way back then. My car ran fine after minor fuel/air and idle speed adjustments.

OK one last question on this (I hope, lol). The port on the air cleaner assembly that I suppose controls the linkage on the cleaner....where does that hook up to the motor? It went to the AAB right. That stays off of the carb though?? So do you leave this port disconnected, or put a different hose on it to somewhere else. Other than this, I'm really happy with the tutorial. I thought it was very well made.

Another thought on this. The hose that is below the elbow removed from the rear of the moter. Is it plugged, or is that where you hook the aircleaner like I asked about in the above post?

Man, it's late and I'm getting all confused. I guess it's time to call it a night.

Not sure exactly what your asking, but all the hoses on the air box get blocked off IIRC.

And about the air cleaner linkage. Are you speaking of the corrugated hose that went down to the exh heat sheild? Thats un affected.

No, the shutter in the cleaner is what I'm asking about. That and the hose under the removed elbow. Also there is a small hose right beside the oil fill tube that I can't figure out what to do with. Not the one on the fill tube, this one is toward the center of the engine a little.

Can you post a pic of what you're talking about? I think that you may be talking about the carb itself.

I think he's talking about the idle compensator valve. IIRC, I blocked off the little bugger.

Ok here goes nothing!

I numbered the pics so I could ask all of my questions here at the top.

1. This is a pic from the tutorial. The arrow points to a hose going to the cat. What it the circled object?

2. Hose with arrow is from the filler tube to the tee fitting and the purge valve( page 19 on the tutorial.) What does this circled hose go to? (I put the bolt in while cleaning.)

3. This is the only thing I don't know where to hook up on this. It doesn't say to block it off, but didn't it used to hook to the AAB taken out at the beginning of the tutorial? Does it go to the hose I am trying to show in pic #5?

4. just showing the area, before I get a close up in pic #5.

5. The red is the two studs and the fabbed plate to block where the elbow comws off. (Tutorial page 11.) Below it there is a tube. Didn't that go to the AAB too? Does it go to the cleaner for question 3? And finally, is this the circled item in pic #1?

I know this is alot to look at, but I tried to organize it, so it would make sense. Hope it does. If nothing else, please tell me if this is a decent way to show what I mean. Thanx.

1- throttle return spring.

2- IIRC we tee'd the 2 hoses together.

3- Block, unused

4/5- Below that is the brake booster hose (leave as is) and the metal line that goes to the cat, which is crimped off and cut later in the turorial. Youve already removed the rubber hose and elbow at this point.

Clear as mud eh?

That helps alot! Thanx. 1...oh, yup I feel stupid now. 2&3 I got it now(thanx). 4/5 I'm pretty sure the one I was looking at isn't the brake booster one. I'm also pretty sure it was connected to the AAB before removal. I'll try to get a pic of that too.

PIC #6!!!! lol

The brake booster line follws the blue arrow. I'm looking at this outlet here. It has a 1.5" piece of hose on it, that I put there, and blocked. I took another pic, but it sux, and it's raining like crazy now.

I figured so, but I've only had this car for like 4 days, and I am about to try to get it running right. Didn't want to have any extra problems due to what I did to the vac lines. Thanx alot for your help everyone. I really appreciate it. I got a manual now, so I'll be a little more "self help".

Glad to hear you're making progress. As far as the self-help stuff goes, I think of Rx-7 ownership as a form of self-help. "I'm OK, I Drive a SA/FB".
