el cheapo canister for loud
i had a cheapo canister with removeable silencer on my 82 and it sounded really crisp....and then the muffler started burning out. if you want loud, you could always do that....my stock exhaust with teh burnt out muffler was pushing about 120-140 db when i had to take it to the ref...and that was with the silencer in....now add a header to the mix and whooooooo booooyyyyyy!!
thats my recommendation for loud

I will tell you what you need the racing beat header 2 to 1...cut the collector back/off...weld on a three inch pipe...the weld on a three 2 hole flange...header done...then three inch straight pipe for the remainding exhaust and three 3inch u bends for the bends that go over the rear end ...then mount your hks muffler on and listen to the sweet sounds...
But i can't stress this enough bro... if you don't plan on doing the fab work yourself or your not a good a fabber always buy the parts your self and save the cash...go to the exhuast shop and have them install and fab the parts your bought...sit there and watch there every move bro...so in the end you get what you want...and you know where your money is going... Oh don't run cat anywhere...and make sure they make the exhaust with the least amount of bends

Why make all that noise? Loud does not = more power. Will this loud exhaust pass inspection or emmisions? All the hondas with there fart cans are just plain anoying. Dont become one of them.

This right here is a header that we did for MannyVidal a forum member who is a drag racer...See the merge in the collector pipes...This setup is your best bet and bang for horse power...keeping the pipes seperate for as long as you can continuing under the rear end then to collect and merge into one then go into the hks muffler...I made a mistake up there when i said up and over the rear end...it can be done but it's easier to go under the rear end...and yes there is still plenty of room and clearance between the exhaust and the floor...

need more noise to sound like pagani zonda! muahaha.
I like the RB setups personally. That being said im going to run RB header straight to stock muffler until some cash finds my wallet. And that is going to be obnoxious

that setup was really nice and wasn't at all too loud to say the least... the hks muffler has stainless steel packing inside that holds up to heat a lot better then then flow masters and magna flows...that were really produce for domestic cars that produce a lot of heat...

that is totally true. my 1985 crx si had 205fwhp and stomped on a 1984 or 85 gsl with mods done. he went to firebird all the time. my si was awesome till i blew the bottom end.

I'd say the best system for a 12A will be a long primary system. Run a dual outlet header with dual 2" or 2 1/4" pipes and collect them just before the rear axle into a 2 1/2" pipe into your choice muffler. On a 12A that's NA, I think that true duals wouldn't do as good as they would on a 13B. Just my personal opinion though

Back to the exhaust? Are you sure you want it as loud as you think you do? I have a two car comparison for you. Both have the same street ported 12 A engine.
I have a racing beat header and exhaust on a street car and it is pleasantly stepped up in volume. Throaty when you hit the throttle, the neighbours notice when it idles along the street. The acura and the celica the two kids on the street have modded sound about the same.
Then I have an RB header, an expansion chamber diffuser, 3 inch pipe to an open flow Magnaflow exhaust (1.5 times the length people usually use on the race car) on my race car. It is effin deafining! I can't run the car any length of time without ear plugs. It is not too bad at idle, but once you reach 3 or 4000 rpm you can't hear yourself breathe! No cop is ever going to let you drive by unmolested.
For a street car I really really don't think you want the open flow.
On top of this, I did a dyno run on the race car, and after I got some good runs we stuck a normal Midas muffler into the exhaust pipe, which made the car sound normal, and lost 1 hp at max, with almost no change in the torque curve. The conclusion was once we had run through the header, expansion chamber and 3 inch pipe we had already made all the hp gains we could by getting good draw, so the muffler was not much of a factor. That was why I opted for the 1.5 times length, as it is still quieter than all the other Rx7's I run with. My ears go off into triple harmonics resonances inside the helmet when they come up beside me on the track! But it is still way too loud for the street.
