12a CarTech drawthrough HELP!!
#201
Looks like you've found the earlier turbo setup. Is it the kind which uses the stock intake and a spacer for the turbo interface? i am curious now Gonna need some pics now
Any vintage CarTech setup is a find in my opinion!!
My setup is doing great... still running strong.
I've been putting some highway miles on it lately... averaging 17.5 to 19.2 MPG!!!!! Go figure, that's better gas mileage than before my turbo. BUT, as soon as I start driving a bit aggressive or go screaming up Mary's Peak I get a little over HALF that mileage

It was just a few days ago, but I'm almost positive there was some sort of coolant line run to the curved section where the carb. bolts onto. (This thing looked kind of rigged, with an oil feed, or drain tapped right into the POS Fram filter.)
The car is super solid, but has never even run since the gentleman who has it now has purchased it. He has never had it running even. However, he assures me it will run no problem (although the carb. is not even bolted down) yea right it runs.....
I'm not overly interested in an SA, although this car reads 60k on the odo, has a targa band, and a full roll bar installed. His price is not overly cheap either, he told me $3k for the car as is, no lower. However, the guy lives alone with about 10 cats, answers the door with his pants down and unbuttoned, is bare foot, and always insists I try his spaghetti sauce, and check out his sport compact car, and porno collection.
Needless to say, this isn't really a guy I want to hang out with. He just has some kick *** rotary stuff laying around. He also has a spare 12A laying around, as well as an 85 wide body that is ported, and has a side draft setup on it.
All in all, I just want the draw through setup. I'm pretty sure I can bribe it away from him with a bottle of Everclear and $100.....haha
Nice to see your car is doing kick ***! Have you ever considered running it on E85 or some sort of mix?

Sooo... What are my options for electronic boost control? I'm looking at a HKS EVC IV... Can i plumb both sensing lines into pressured side of turbo housing? HKS instructions show one on pressure side of turbo before intercooler and other after throttle plates/in plenium. Ugh... Is no one else running a boost controller on a draw-through setup?
Hoping for some help here guys... Thanks

HKS EVC electronic boost controller installed... SOOOO COOOOLLL... low to high boost at a touch of a button.
And the BIG NEWS... I drove the car to the shop for the body work to begin TODAY. MazdaSpeed widebody going on with whale tail and Mariah front air dam. Not gonna be an "over-night" thing, but, the process has started. Gonna fix drivers door while at it (failing hinge). Still haven't NAILED DOWN the color yet. Right now, going for DARK red... will look black in low light and a deep red in the sun. That's the plan anyways, there's a long road of bodywork ahead, but, I've got one of the best on it!!! Thanks Joe!!!
We will be taking pictures religiously and posting our progress.... MORE SOON

Here's a pic of my car in the booth. You can see a few of the widebody panels in the background :-p
I've yet to haul over the Mariah air dam... not really ready for it anyways.
CRY... It looks like my wheels and tires are WAY to narrow to look right with this kit... like 5-6" to narrow in the rear. Any ideas for a set of widebody wheels?

Best price I found on the adapters when I looked a while back:

Something I'm interested in trying is a mechanical pre-turbo water injection setup. Basically, you use manifold pressure to pressurize a water tank and run a line to a jet in the intake with a boost-actuated solenoid in the middle. Potentially a very cheap and simple way to increase your compressor efficiency. There was a guy on this forum experimenting with using atomizing nozzles as well, to mitigate the potential for compressor wheel erosion (though I wouldn't think it would be an issue with your setup anyway).

Recently acquired the same turbo setup you are running sans the carb. Will post some pictures up eventually. Just need to save some cash, and start looking for a car....
Post some more videos of this thing on YouTube BTW, or just more videos and pictures in general, this thing is swank....

If you still haven't bought a carb yet, I would recommend a holley 390cfm with choke and mechanical secondaries. A good start with jetting; 56 main jets and 67 secondaries

The way I look at it, it is much easier to find a 1st gen, than to find a complete turbo setup for a good price.

I know I'm bottle-necking my engine a bit with the smaller turbo and drawthrough setup.. but DAMN... it does scoot. If I had the money I would convert to drawthrough. Would be pretty spendy and pretty much mean starting over. New fuel system... carb... larger turbo... intake... intercooler... piping... BOV... = $$ I dont have.
i think Im just gonna enjoy what I have for now

My setup is running GREAT. Im cruising 7psi boost all day with NO problems. I can switch to 10psi with my EBC easily. But, I WANT MORE BOOST!!!
So, this leaves me with no other option except meth/water injection AFTER the turbo.
Here is my question... with locked timing (10*) and meth/water injection, can I run 1 bar (~15 psi) boost safely?
Thanks guys
