FL 12A to 13B Turbo Swap

I have a 1985 GS and was considering swapping to a 13B-T here soon. I've tried to study up on the swap the best i can but i still need some guidance. Maybe from someone whos done this swap?

I'm aware I need a 13B-T engine and a TII tranny. Is there a better route to do, S4 or S5?

I know I also need a higher pressure fuel pump. suggestions? I've seen a lot of Walbros.

And then I need a GSL-SE fuel tank, oil pan and front cover. Anyone know where I can get one specifically? Or is it something I just need to search around for?

Any other concerns, parts or tips i need to have?

Thanks a lot

there is a lot of customization that i did with my swap but i have a machine shop at my fingertips anytime the amount of welding and cutting was slim but not bad.

the transmissions crossmember comes to mind i custom made one along with the drive shaft.

using your 12a front cover on the 13bT2 is simple and easy so the engine is mounted no problem but you need to buy a GSLSE oil pan you can get a new one cheap enough.

cutting of the shift rod on the trasmission is another mod that i did to fit the FB shifter on the FC tranny(didnt have to cut out the tranny tunnel this way).

after that its wasy wire up the ECU get a front mount oil cooler and intercooler, all the other goodies you want its plug and play.

You will need a Limited slip diff. i suggest a ford 9 inch from grannys speed shop.

Then your ready to rip. if you cant do this stuff yourself get to know your local machine shop really well and be ready to pay out fists of cash.

I definately don't recommend this unless you already have a working turbo Fb putting out over 400+whp. Even then, only necessary for drag racing.

A good stock limited slip differential with some upgraded axles will me more than sufficient for almost any street driven turbo fb.

There are so many options--that is kind of what makes it a custom car.

I would suggest you decide before you start what you want the final result to be and work backwards from there. If I had done that, I would have saved a lot of time and money. For example, half-way through I decided to go with TII brakes which required me to lose the new wheels I just bought and get wheels in the 114.3X5 bold pattern etc.

Decide what your final goal is and what you will be asking of the car, work out a budget and then double whatever you calculated.

Many questions about the engine and turbo system themselves (not just the swap aspect) would be better answered by searching in the 2nd gen section.

The swap is firly simple if you are mech inclined. What are your intentions? DD, track, ??? If you are looking to be frugal, then the basic swap is a cinch. Front plate, crossmember, tranny, wiring harnesses, etc.

You will not need a new fuel pump, rear end, unless you are planning big HP numbers or going with a bigger turbo. You should be a little more discriptive in what you are wanting to do.

And research past write ups. It wil save you alot of headache and long nights of banging your head on a wall.

Yes, the new fuel pump is needed. You can't run a fuel-injected turbo on the stock 3psi carb'd 12a's fuel pump. Maybe on the GSL-SE's stock fuel pump, but definitely not on the 12a one.
