12a to 13b Front Engine Mount ... is it needed?

was reading around and since im swapping a '84 GSL-SE 13b motor into my '84 GS i got a little worried..

RB says it cant be done without this because of crossmember location. how about using the 13b engine mounts from the -SE?

i really dont feel like having to order and wait on this, so if anyone has any simpler solutions or knows if i can just drop the 13b into my GS without probs. please LMK

thanks!

here's the link to the mount on RB http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda1.htm

sorta answered my own question, but it seems most people doing this are using FC engines, not a lot of info on swaps of the same year'd engines. hmm

dude. totally unecessary. use your 12A front cover on your 13B. They should match up. Easy as pie.

You'll have to stretch the mounts to make it fit. I have a 12A front cover and SE mount. Alls you do is stretch it 20mm. Its on a rubber pad so its totally fine to do it.

Edit: Even with an SE front cover you can do the same process from what I understand.

Blazer, theres no need to put a 12A front cover on an -SE engine. You put a 12A cover on the 2nd gen 13Bs because the mounting system changed to a "cradle type".

Paradox, Just drop the fawking thing in. Make it fit, lol. The only reason RB sells the damn mount is because the 13B is a *little* longer than a 12A, so it flares to the front of the car a little more making room, but Ive seen people put -SE engines in 12A cars without the mount. Greg just did it in his GSL, he might respond as to which mount he used. So, IMO, you could try and make it fit with the 12A mount (as stated above), or you could find an -SE mount in the junk yard or someone selling one, or you could buy Racing Beats mount, OR (best option IMO)you could just slot the two holes so it sits forward more. Easy as pie and works just fine. You only need to make em like an inch or something longer. Thats what I would do if it was me.

yeah i think im just going to drop it in using whats already there and modify the mounts where needed.

so i just have to drill it out about 20mm forward? you dont happen to have pics of this done do you?

thanks for the input guys. hopefully my swap will go through easily...

all i did was flatten mine... if u look at the pic of the RB mount, its EXACTLY what i did to mine, minus the little notch i put in the side that corresponds with the oil cooler fittings, because i had a clearance issue with the oil pan, notching it fixed it... heres a pic of mine, compare it to the RB mount... u might notice a similarity lol

thanks for the input guys, going to have to see what happens tommorow when the engine comes out.

i think i am just going to flatten it, i cant wait around for god knows how long on shipping from RB to here for that mount

i had some fun today for the last day driving on the 12a drivetrain (engine/trans atleast) lots of burn outs, donuts. figure i killed whats left of that clutch in a half hour. haha
