My own car...with some work....
Basically a 1985 GS, bone stock body with rear and side louvers. Dark green paint, stock mags (the "+" wheels). Refurbished fuel injected 13b turbo peripheral port, 4 wheel disc brakes, lsd, rack and pinion steering, removed rats nest, dual exhaust?

Also, looks like you have spacers between your flywheel and pressure plate??

Jeff20B 07-22-07 03:20 PM

The Cosmo sleeves can be replaced with T2 sleeves. I'll do that when I rebuild it.

The pressure plate spacers are necessary on the aftermarket flywheels because they were designed to be universal for 215mm and 225mm clutches. Mazda added a step in the later 225mm pressure plates to make them incompatible with the earlier 215mm flywheels. The work around is those spacers and longer bolts as the actual bolt pattern is the same.

That pictured above is a stock duty set. It didn't grab hard enough for me. I've since installed the disc and pressure plate in my Cosmo. I do have a 215mm RB pressure plate and stock disc kicking around, which I'll use instead. It's smaller, but grabs harder. I need something for test running the engine in the car. Then when it's rebuild time, I'll look into something stronger.

elwood 07-22-07 04:35 PM

Thanks for the education. How long before you get that baby installed and running? We need a full write-up, with subjective evaluations, pictures, and some audio. I've never heard a 3-rotor :). That'll give the rest of us some vicarious thrills. If you need help with anything, just ask. I have some original 13B-RE parts kicking around, and I've spent enough time on mine that I might be able to help with something.

Jeff20B 07-22-07 05:08 PM

I need one or two T2 sleeves. Not right now, but I will come rebuild time.

A 3 Rotor is the most beautiful sound in the world. If you've never heard one, search YouTube or Streetfire.net under 20B or 3 Rotor.

FIBREMAZ 07-22-07 09:26 PM

Mine is fairly close to my dream SA/FB
13B PP,50mm T.B's, Microtech, Alloy radiator,TII turbo g/box, lightened flywheel and H/D clutch, TII oil cooler font mounted, TII alternator w/twin belt pulley
Noltec adjustable strut tops, Coilovers with 350Lb springs, thicker front and rear sway bars, 3.75" lowered rear springs,KYB shocks (would prefer Koni's but hey)
FD calipers with slotted FC discs, braided brake lines.
17"x7" Lenso RS5's with redwalls
Carbon hood,Carbon headlight covers,Carbon cowel panel,Carbon centre console and gearstick surround,Carbon rear 1/4 vents.
Sparco reclinable seats, custom white faced guages 3 color switchable.
Main thing I would upgrade if $$ allowed would be changing to 20B PP

Good suggestion -- awesome sound. I think the 20B-powered 350Z had the meanest audio.

Jeff 20B -- just checked, unfortunately no exhaust sleeves :(.

Jeff20B 07-24-07 01:36 AM

Thanks anyway.

Speaking of 20B sound, I'd like to record an audio clip of the 20B with just one Borla during the exhaust build. I'm just as curious as you guys. ;)

I have seen alot of nice 1st gen 7's. And most of the nice ones come from here on the forum. But of course my favorite sits in my garage. It's been in three magazines this year and I got a call the other day for a calender deal. I haven't shown it much this year because of the media coverage its got. Never before have I built a car that has recieved a response as this one has and its a pretty good feeling knowing I own it. So, yeah I'm a little biased.

Completely restored from the ground up 82 GSL, Tornado Silver Metallic, black interior, 1k on a brand new 12A(yeah brand new not freshly rebuilt ;) ), Rebuilt tranny and rear end. It would be as immaculate as it would have been as it rolled off the assembly line.
Or
A mint GSL-SE like the red one that we all drool over.
Okay guys let's hear what your dream FB is!

Of course I do, I wonder if you know that there is no rims in the picture and the tires were just sitting in the wheel wells.

That picture was just to get an idea of how wide of tires I could fit and what they would look like I just quickly tossed the tires into position.

Sold those tires months ago and now I have CCW's and some Nitto drag radials in the rear.

My dream rotary is a 67 corvette convertible... it would have one of those new modern frame kits that takes front and rear suspension from a C4 (1984-96) Vette. Body would be close to stock, ditto interior, nice chrome wheels.... and a huge 13B turbo! Or, even better, since we're dreaming, a 20B turbo!

I want to teach a lesson to all you turds who remove the rotary and drop in a v8. Here's turn-about -- pull the V8 and install a rotary! Hurry Lotto and pull my numbers!

a.y.b. 01-29-08 08:06 PM

My dream FB would be a brand new 85 SE , 0 kms on it with a renesis under the hood with the 6 speed from the 8, rx-8 gauges and seats. Maybe white paint with white rims. Of course suspension/exhaust/other goodies.

hard choice to go with a renesis or an NA 3 rotor, imo both offer enough horse power in an FB...

chiefmg 01-29-08 08:17 PM

Like more than a few people who have posted, my dream FB is my car with a few mods (some of which I have already obtained).

'81 GS
Pacifica widebody kit
Racing rear spoiler (can't recall who made it, but I have one)
GSL-SE suspension w/Konis and Eibach springs
TII engine w/streetport
Wheels either 15 or 16" (not yet decided)
Stock interior, possibly recovered in leather

I'll definitely be making a build thread/progress thread once it gets going a little more. Still gathering bits and pieces.

I had originally bought an 85 GSL from a friend of mine. The 12A in that is running fine, I was going to just pull it and drop in the V8. A little bit after I bought that I found a guy looking to sell his 85 GL with the grannies kit, older 302 and AOD already installed. He wanted 300 for the car, so I jumped on that. A bit after I got that one I found a nice deal on a 88 302HO/AOD combo out of a Lincoln, decided I'd rather run EFI than a carbed setup. So I'll snag the limited slip rear end of of the GSL... along with the louvers () and put those on the GL.

Here is the GSL I bought from my friend, 200 bucks. The moron who had it before my friend sprayed primer all over the OE paint. No prep, no nothing. Just sprayed...over everything... even the wheels! It was that metallic brown color before he got primer happy.
http://members.arstechnica.com/x/mojave/rx7.jpg

Here's the GL with the 302, it was 300 bucks.
http://members.arstechnica.com/x/mojave/0720081537.jpg

I'm pretty excited about the project, my goal is 300+ horsepower out of the 5.0, shouldn't be that hard to get there. Stock 5.0 HO is good for 225 hp and 300 lb-ft. The AFR 165 heads I have my eyes on are good for 100 ponies by themselves.

Hahaha that's a joke right? Yeah that's why GM put a distributor behind the water pump in the LT1's. I tell ya I don't sell ANY distributors for LT1's ;)

'87 turbo II 02-26-09 09:33 AM

A really clean rust-free dark green 1985 GSL-SE with the Rx-8 6-speed transmission, TII hubs and brakes, The 16X engine (when it's completed), 2 inch flares up front and 3.5 inch flares out back with 15 by 8 wheels up front (flush offset) wrapped in 255/RZ(whatever keeps the stock speedo accurate)/15 and rear wheels at 16 by 10(also flush offset) with 275/RZ(matching diam sidewall to front)/16. Then a black interior that mirrors the stock layout in modern supercar materials like alacantra, leather, soft-touch plastics, and carbon fiber with a cage that doesn't make entry too hard, but just stiffens the chassis up a bit. RE-Speed's rack and pinion steering system, a RB full exhaust for what ever they'd engineer for the 16X. Re-Speed's coil over conversion kit and whatever coilovers that make for a good compromise between streetable, and track-worthy. The engine and tranny are both new, zero miles, and the LSD and TII break calipers are freshly rebuilt. Steel-braded every kind of line you can get, all bulbs in the car, both exterior and interior are replaced with comparable output LEDs. Everyhting is seam welded to stiffen the chassis. Retrofitted HIDs that are properly engineered and don't blind other people on the road. stock body other than the flares. A mild tint job to darkenthe windows just a hair, but doesn't make it hard to see in/out of the car. The power windows/antenna/windshield wiper motors/ and any other electrical actuator/motor is brand new and greased up to work at modern speeds, not 1985 power window speed. No emissions equipment, new wiring harness, and a wire tuck under the hood with a battery relocated to the driver storage bin for a super clean under hood appearance.

thunkrd 03-01-09 01:39 AM

the speedo is through the transmission. so it would be the drive wheels that matter, not the fronts. but yes i completely agree with you on this being a dream fb.
If the 16x pushes out decent hp and torque, i would definitely go for that route instead of turbo. plus the MPG gains should be phenomenal
