Stu, If this is going on your car isn't it like the 4th or 5th carb you have tried??

If so i think we should take bets on how long you will keep it

Good luck

so help me clear it up, wouldn't that just make your car bog down? or are you porting?, or is the 7 cable of handling that much extra on a stockport?

More like 8th, but it would be the 4th or 5th different type

A buddy of mine let me borrow his manifold, it is a stock nikki manifold, with the nikki flange cut off and Holley flange on it. Just need to hit up Ebay for the Holley/QJet adapter.

Who knows?

Just need to rebuild the carb and get the adapter for it. If worse comes to worse then I got some ported Irons in the shack

EDIT: Also, this is the 650 carb. I had a Holley 600 on a stock port 12a and it was alright.

gm used to use them but after a rebuild they just arn't the same thats why they got nick named quadra-junks so don't expect miracles from that carb a holly or webber would be a better choice I think

It is a 650, a 750 has something in the secondaries ground off, IIRC.

I love quads, I've had a few (none on a car) and this on is in better shape than my others.

Had a Holley 600, was crap and hated it.

Had a OER 45 (racing Weber 45) it was great.

Ran a 48DCOE on a second gen, that was alright.

Got a 48IDA at the house, dunno what I will be putting it on.

Million Bazillion Nikki's, stock, modified, boost prepped, etc.

No problem, I like hearing experiences. I plan on stripping EVERYTHING off the carb and just getting mechanical secondaries. It seemed to have mechanical secs on it, as I can turn it 75% and then the huge secondaries open.

its all good im just saying that i've rebuilt quadrajunks for racing for years and fixed carbs that carb shops built and didint work.
i know people that talk smak about them but a lot of the time they just dont know what to do to get it working right.

when they are working they are AWSOME.

older post I know, but I thought I would chime in.

The q-jet somehow (I read it once a few years back but can't remember details) meters out the CFM per the engines requirements. So the Secondaries will not open all the way, but only to the extent that is beneficial to the engine.

I have this carb on my cadillac. It is the best damned carb I have ever owned. I am looking at using a similar setup on a streetport 12a. Unless I find areason not to

I had a Q-jet on the 350 in my old box van. It was simple to rebuild and ran like a champ, very happy with it.

Yeah, I will be rebuilding it as well as doing some basic modifications to it, needle& seat, making it a 750 if needed, mechanical secondaries, etc.

Also, I have a stock 12a manifold here that a friend has cut the nikki flange off and got a Holley flange welded on and runners matched. Its an awesome piece, wish I could take a picture of it, but the manifold AND camera are at my parents place.
