Yesterday, while j9fd3s was finishing up assembling the engine, I got 6 of my 8 extended studs in. 2 of them got mangled upon entry...figured out that putting them in with the impact gun wasn't such a good idea. Ordered more replacements today...will be in on Thursday.
Also futzed around with the autopower roll-bar today. Not sure about where it really wants to mount. The wheel well mounts look like they go in a certain spot, but the floor isn't quite right when I line up the wheel wells. Gonna get some help on this...don't want to screw around with safety.
Put in the Momo seat so I can drive the car once I get the wheel studs in. I'm hoping to be able to auto-x on Saturday and/or Sunday.

it looks like it uses the same flange as the header/presilencer/connecting pipe, which is odd, but at least its something available.

Today I replaced a wire fitting for the starter. Smooth has been sitting in the driveway for a week now.... grrrr.
I drove her to our new home without a problem. She shuttled me to work for 2 weeks (ten 70-mph highway miles each day). Running rich was having a cumulative effect and I tuned the carb some. She was running pretty good.
Then the dog turned the headlights on in the parking lot… battery DEAD as a doornail. So I started to pay attention to the charging system. She failed her electrical test at O'Reilly and got a new alternator. This improved her overall performance again… Boy was I happy. BUT not long lived.
Only a few joy rides and the starter fails (thankfully at home… she seems to have a grace for that). I'm afraid it's the starter suppressor for the A/T, but if it is the starter I have a tested-good spare I traded for waiting to step in.
Boy, this full time job leaves little time to wrench!

Still waiting on my replacement extended studs. Decided to remove the rear springs and put in the shorter springs I used to run. That should take up the gap quite a bit. Removed the lower shock bolt. Grabbed the spring. Swore. Got the Hammer of Persuasion. Smiled a bit. Repeated. Springs swapped. Happy now.

Got clearance from the household CFO to shop tires for the Epsilons.
My first choice (Goodrich g-force Sport Comp2's in 195/50-15) are on backorder everywhere until December (was November before); looking at Yokohama s-drives now.
Anyone had experience with either?

A buddy ran Michelin Pilot Sports on his turbo Audi and couldn't say good enough things about them. I ran a few turns extremely fast in that car and they gripped unlike anything else. Eventually I'll get a set of those on my car - they are like a street legal race tire.

I'm Back After 419 Days
I rejoined the FB group again.
1984 Red/Gray GS 70,800mi 12a AUTO
A guy wanted to trade me even up for an Audi Wagon I daily drove for the last 8 months. It lost compression in cylinder 2 and 3 due to the rings going bad so I thought, "Sure, why not?" This all transpired at about 1am this morning but I didn't care how late I had to stay up. Since I sold the Turbo FB it's been 419 days I've been without a rotary - felt like forever.

Congrats on your return to the FB club Lindahl! Today I nailed negotiations for the purchase of an 85 GSL SE! It's got a blown engine (side seals on rotor #2, but comes with an S4 NA motor and tranny as part of the deal), body is almost rust free. Great candidate for the TII transplant

lindahlish, I can't believe it's been that long! Welcome back again!
Mazda Comp sent the wrong type of wheel studs, so FML.
I wanted to get my car on the road tonight so I could bring it into the shop for a little enhancement, so I said f*k it and put two of my short studs back in. Figured I'll just run my other wheels which don't need extended lugs. Unfortunately, the rear brake caliper won't go on and I don't have that piston tool to back it in. FML x 2.
So, she's still up on jack stands. I'm hoping a friend of mine has that tool and can come over and we'll make short work of it.
Dammit...I really wanted this thing on slicks this weekend. The last auto-x event of the year is in 2 days. I'm not in a happy place right now.
