So I found another car to put a 12a in...
Not exactly a rotary vehicle... actually it is the complete opposite.
It is:
2 door sedan
Front and Rear USEABLE seats
3 Cylinder
FWD
Can anyone guess what it is?
If you guessed a Geo Metro, your WRONG! It is a 2 stroke engine with I believe a 3 on a tree transmission. Left a Rotary Crossroads business card (as that was the only thing I had to write with) stating that I would love to buy the car and left my number.
Got a 12a engine/transmission/driveshaft/rear end at the house. I know it will not fit, but it would be a great project car, and would have 3x the power it had stock.
Oh, I didn't tell you what the car was?

Shoulda read the Wiki a bit harder, it is a 4 speed, which is weird. I looked in the car and saw 3 pedals (clutch, brake, gas) but no floor mounted shifter. That brought me to the 3 speed column shifter, but I could not find out where the shifter was at... Drats, I looked at it for like 2 minutes, and its 5 hours away from me

so it's an Audi. the 4 rings on the grill. kinda resembles the 55-57 chevy. mini shoebox.
put a modern street bike engine in it. like from a honda goldwing 1600cc.
a quick search:

they were frontwheel drive. with some fab knowhow, shouldn't be too difficult to make it rear wheel drive.
were full chassis
nice little car. could be an excellent commuter car, especially the way gas is now. any more vote for going modern streetbike engine? maybe u could keep an eye out for another?

It would be great to put a bike engine in it, but this is the problem I have encountered. -
What will you do with the transmission? A bike engine revs like crazy, so you would need a really strong tranny right?
I've been wanting to swap a hayabusa engine into a bug or x1/9 for some time now, I just need the money and time!

Yeah Ray, I want to get it badly. I will low ball him $500, since I have a good feeling it does not run (great for me)
If I do, I would want to just get a 12a in there for the mean time. If it goes good, it will have more HP than stock (like I said, 3x) and still return stock RX7 MPG plus more since it is about 500lbs less than it. Should be fun, and if I want to get frisky, then just SP it and throw on a Sterling.

I would like to get a bike engine in there, but it seems like it would be under more stress than designed? Most bikes are 300=700lbs, right? Putting it in a vehicle that weighs about 2-5x the amount would seem pretty tough on it. You could just use an older bike engine, like my 1982 Yamaha Seca, it is driveshaft driven, easier to make it RWD.
If I just went 12a, I have everything needed, but unmodified ($$$).

when i said Chevy Sprint, i don't think many people here would remember the little guy. and since we're taking weird cars, i figured i'd throw up a few pics of an 86 that i found on the net. i owned one once, an 87. it was blue with the 3 cyl and 5spd. used more oil than gas. i rebuilt the engine (which was a 48hp unit manufactured by Suzuki) at 340K. it took me 10 hours total. i have a friend here in town that restores these neat little cars. we call him "SprintMan". he really does a great job with them. i'm sure he ownes close to 20 sprints, not to mention a 1950 Packard 2 door, a 57 BMW Isetta, a 66 Toronado, and a couple of Metros and Vintage Lincons. anyways, here's the pics of the Sprint:

well stu if you where in my neck of the woods. I would con yah into putting a 1,000cc Polaris triple in there water cooled sled motor and we could use the two speed snowmobile clutch in there. They do it over here in legend cars all the time with the snowmobile motor/tranny. lots of water cooled sleds to choose from for cheap up here!

What about this?
Jeezus,
How've you been?
My son brought this '87 Mitsubishi Starion home a few days ago. It has many of the same lines as an RX-7. I especially like the flared fenders. Hmmm...I wonder if he'll put a rotary in it? Ha ha. No....I don't think so...it already has a turbo. LOL.
Good luck with your project!

NSU being the car company Felix Wankel teamed with to produce the world's first rotary car in the 60's. They were bought by volkswagen and merged with Auto Union which is what the four rings really mean. Audi is only the first ring, the others being DKW, Horch and Wanderer. Good call Slayer.
