Prepare to be upset! (84 RX-7 RIP)
This folks is one of the effects of the stupid cash for clunkers program our "JOKE" of a government has done.
This car WAS owned by a friend of mine.... he was an avid Mazda fan and regularly autocrossed and won with this car is CSP. He recently moved to racing a MR 2 in autocross and his poor little RX-7 was now unwanted.
Now its perfectly running 12a has ingested a fluid to "take the life" out of her and she is being loaded on a truck to be destroyed!!!
This was a perfect example of what a 1st gen is......and it is gone!
She lost her life to become a new Subaru for her previous owners...
Government progams at its finest!
Enjoy the pictures of her! RIP

Horrible... This is what happens when the government is allowed to use our own money to attempt to seduce us to behave as they wish us to.
Smack the owner in the forehead for me, though... he decided to suckle the government teat, after all - - nobody 'forced' him.
Not so much of a Mazda fan as he appeared, huh?

That really sucks. Looks like a nice car.
Are you sure it is an '84? I thought that the production date had to be 8/84 or later to qualify..maybe it would still be an '84 model with an 8/84 production date (been awhile since I have checked to see when the transition occured between model years).
It may be that it didn't really qualify, the dealer thought it did and killed it, then later will find that the government will not pay out since it didn't qualify???

That doesn't make much sense considering he probably could have sold it for more than he got from the dealership. That car is in excellent shape, and even though it was his car, he had no right to allow it to be destroyed. That shows absolutely no respect for the car or the 7 community. Someone could have bought and drove that car, and gotten some more use and life out of it.

YES. Your trade-in vehicle must:
- have been manufactured less than 25 years before the date you trade it in and, in the case of a category 3 vehicle, must also have been manufactured not later than model year 2001
- have a "new" combined city/highway fuel economy of 18 miles per gallon or less
- be in drivable condition
- be continuously insured and registered to the same owner for the full year preceding the trade-in

you the taxpayer!
you also bought my mercedes for $3500 which was about $3000 more than any sane human, even an INSANE human wouldn't pay more than $1000 for that, aptly named, clunker
sad to see the 7 go, hopefully it gets smuggled over the border, or the paper work gets fouled up, but the benz? good riddance...

Not communism, just anger. It is his car and I would never let anyone tell me what to do with mine, so maybe I was a little hypocritical on that one.
I bought my bone stock 84GSL for $5500CDN, so yes I would have bought that car for $4500, if I was in the market for another one. That thing was immaculate. I can understand needing to get rid of a car, but there are better ways to go about it than having the car knowingly destroyed when it could serve a better purpose. The 12A alone is worth money because those parts are no longer being made and are less and less available. Hell I just tossed an apex seal last night, and I could really use another motor. Now that motor will be filled with death and will be no more useful than mine. Hopefully someone will see it in the scrapyard and at least save the chassis.

That was one of the cars that I was looking at buying a couple of months ago. Too bad, it looked really clean. Everything but the engine will be available in a junk yard, so it is not a total loss.
That being said, I fully support our president and the cash for clunkers program as it has helped turn around our economy. Not everyone will like it, but it is what it is and in my opinion, is the best $3 billion that our government has spent in a while. If you want to Criticize government spending, why not start with the hundreds of billions in Iraq or the hundreds of billions that we have given to oil companies in tax breaks over the years as they make record profits? Three billion that the American public can actually see and that will get them called back into work, I do not see the harm.
