Please ID this race spec gen 1 RX7.

Here is the story, I know this girl and recently found out that her dad used to race RX7s. He passed away when she was at the age of 9 (was killed as an innocent bystander in a bar shoot out during a vacation in the Caribbeans). She gave me two pictures of the RX7 her dad used to race but she is not familiar with what races the RX7 competed in. I would like to ask if anyone can give me some information on this and what could be under the hood in that RX7.

Here are two pictures of the said RX7. Same car, different livery.

It's obviously carb'd, with that huge filter sticking out of the hood. Probably a 12a, maybe a peripheral port?

Those are just guesses, I know nothing of that car specifically.

i agree it looks like an SA, 79-80

it is WEIRD there are no class or sanctioning body stickers on it, IMSA cars have IMSA stickers, NASA cars have NASA sitckers, SCCA cars have SCCA stickers, its usually part of the rules.

barring that its impossible to say what might be under the hood, offset rectangular filter says weber IDA, but it could be on a PP13B or a stock 12A.....

I forgot to mention that it was mostly raced in the Caribbeans.

If we had a name it might be easier. The drivers name is on the top of the driver side door of the first photo but can't make it out. This could lead to some club records somewhere. More then likely a 12A with unknown porting.

Where did you find the pictures? Might lead to more information.

Is her dad's last name MARAJ?

I was able to make out the name MARAJ - seems like a Sponsor.
And the owner of the company seems to be from Trinidad?
Part of Champion Racing in Pomano Beach, FL?

I believe her dads last name is Chung. She is half Guyanese and Chinese. Let me correct myself, because her dad passed away in Guyana. They are familiar with the Caribbeans (Trinidad) though. Ill ask if she knows any more or has more pics.

It looks somewhat familiar to me (Being from Trinidad) but I would guess the car is from Guyana. Carib is local Trinidad beer and Maraj and Sons Jewelers is also from Trinidad. A Trinidad race car would not have STP or HAVOLINE as a sponsor since we have our own major oil companies there.

I've seen a few people race similar type first gens with peri port 13B engines. A very popular Guyanese driver in the 80s was a guy named Ray Rahaman but it would not be him from the description.

Paul.

That's Guyana, not Trinidad.. I'm Trinidadian and our track don't look like that. My body shop friend in Long Island circuit raced in Guyana back in the 80's. I'm sure he might be able to identify this car. IIRC, he showed me pics of a similar Rx7 from his old racing days
